chuck holson and pat brought faith to the problem. i remember at chuck's funeral i told this story before i was sitting at the reception and a fellow came up to me and we introduced each other. he said i first met him when i was in prison. he came to me and he said god has a plan for you. and he said i looked at him and i said i have no doubt about that but it is a really terrible plan. but by having faith and respect for the dignity of individuals whether they are prisoners or not allows people to re-enter into society. no system is perfect. not everybody who gets out is ever going to go straight as they put it. there are going to be problems. but we owe it to those who have their freedom taken away by the state to see to it that they are treated well, as pat said, and that they have a real opportunity. shining a light on the way people are treated once they go away is incredibly important to this. and our next speaker, piper kerman has done that through her memoir of the time she spent incarcerated and the television show orange is t
