i'm luke russert in for chuck todd, but thanks for sending in that greeting. a great group here in d.c. that helps the homeless and is near and dear to chuck's heart. let's get right to the big job news. 236,000 jobs were added in february. the unemployment rate fell to 7.7% down from 7.9% in january. the number for december was revised up to 219,000. the number for january was revised down to 119,000. the sectors that showed the biggest movement, professional and business employment increased by 73,000 jobs. construction increased by 48,000, healthcare up by 32,000, and retail added 24,000 jobs. the most significant losses were in government, mostly on the state level, where 10,000 jobs were cut. much more on the job news in a moment with cnbc's becky quick, by let's turn to the budget battle. the president will continue his battle as the house and senate prepare dueling budgets. >> i thought it was a really good exchange of views, a very informal setting, coats off, sleeves rolled up, really discussing ways we might begin to bridge some 69 differences we face

our own chuck todd is in jerusalem. he joins me now. chuck, looks like to be a rather pleasant day at least weather-wise. what is going on in the holy land? >> well, mr. russert, it is unbelievable weather here greeting the president. pretty much a perfect spring day, if you will here in the holy land. what was interesting is the first thing the president said as he got off and there were microphones everywhere, i don't think he knew he was on, he said it's good to be away from congress. also that chitchat as making his way through shaking hands with various dignitaries, he and netanyahu were heard joking about difficulties in the budget process that both leaders are having in each of their countries. but, look, this event, you set it up well. this trip is heavy on symbolism, going to be somewhat light on substance as far as what, you know, what is he going to take away? what are the take aways? there are important issues, iran, sear yashgs the peayria a process. but this last one, the amazing miss, if you will. president obama when he s

that's how chuck todd gets down. chuck, i have one question for you. what is going on in your world right now? >> well, it has been a pretty busy day. you brought up the issue of syria and this is classic all politics is local issue when it comes to jordan. this issue of syrian refugees and the economic toll it is taking on the country is clearly the number one item on the king's agenda. he equated it. he made an interesting little parallel. he said they may get close, up to a million refugees by the end of the year. that would be the equivalent, he said, he used his math in the united states if we had 60 million refugees suddenly flooding our border in a year. that is how many syrians are coming over the border. and the president, mindful of this, he came with a little gift for the jordanians. $200 million in additional aid simply to deal with this refugee issue. but the other big news of the day happened before the president left israel. he did a little tarmac diplomacy. right before he got on air force one, he and prime minister netanyahu pulled off
