we bring in nbc news political director chuck todd. you talk a lot to trump's transition team.ou predict the next few days of his presidency. >> in the first days it's going to do -- they want to do traditional things that incomes presidents do. one of the first things they're hoping to do is use some executive orders, some quick action, that send a message they're already trying to fulfill campaign promises. the two they believe they have to fill right, that they have to fulfill at a minimum is repealing and replacing obamacare and starting the wall. the infamous wall on the southern border. so that's how you should -- what you should expect in the first couple of days in these executive orders. maybe not necessarily today. monday they've been saying the really the day they give the first day of office. so they think there's ways that i can move money to actually begin the process of building the wall on the first couple of days and start laying the groundwork for the repeal and replacement on the health care. >> nbc news political director chuck todd moderator of the press. t

chuck todd is nbc's political director and the moderator of "meet the press." the news of your john lewis will air in its entirety. when you have someone of john lewis of his authority says that this is not the legitimate president, what's the impact of that? >> the impact is number one. i think it is going to give up permission slip to maybe a lot of democrats who wanted to say it but did not feel comfortable saying it to say it. that's number one and that's going to -- could divide the democratic party. some democrats came out and respectfully disagreed with john lewis. he thought it was bad when questions thrown at president obama. but, donald trump's decision to attack and to essentially react the way he did seems to unify the democrats now in a way that they have not been unified. they have been wrestling with how to handle that. i think donald trump bought himself some problems with republicans. >> we learned from donald trump that no criticisms can go unanswered. you look at john mccain or the gold star khan, whoever it is, he's going to hit back. this i

we heard chuck todd taking her to task on that. i'm not sure what that means, do you? >> for someone who is as accomplished at spin as kellyanne is, i don't find this surprising at all. what you see here, though, i think is, alex, a more troubling pattern with this cavalier disregard for the facts. if there are facts that do not line up with what the trump administration is seeking to portray, the narrative that they want out there, then they're going to try to undermine those facts, regardless of whether or not that means uttering a falsehood from the press secretary's podium in the white house, for example. i think more broadly, though, what this shows, alex, is the trump administration's intention of degrading and demeaning and discrediting the media. >> and that's different. there have been administrations in the past that have certainly been at war with the media, but this is of a whole other magnitude, and when you take the hostility that they have shown and the glee with which they want to undermine the main stream media's credibility, it's really unprecedent. >

his white house chief of staff, reince priebus, appeared on "meet the press" with my colleague, chuck todd. take a listen. >> it seems that a lot of the chaos yesterday could have been avoided, had you at least included some sort of timed grace period. why was that not included? >> well, i don't think you want to have a grace peri, chuck, because then people that want to do bad things to americans just move up their travel date in order to get into the country before the grace period's over. so i think it's one of these things that -- and if you ask a lot of people, the customs and border patrol would tell you you've got to rip off the band-aid and you have to move forward. so, it wasn't chaos. the fact of the matter is 325,000 people from foreign countries came into the united states yesterday and 109 people were detained for further questioning. most of those people were moved out. we've got a couple dozen more that remain, and i would suspect as long as they're not awful people, that they will move through before another half a day today, and perhaps some of these people should be detai

joining us for a preview is moderator chuck todd. thanks for being with us. >> happy to be here, ted. >> as you know, we have a very fluid situation this morning with the president's executive travel ban order. last night a federal judge suspended the order amid protests at airports nationwide. immigrant families on edge. this morning a white house adviser says the president's order stands. chuck, what do you make of all of this? >> the federal judge essentially stopped the government from sending back anybody detained that was in transit during the order. so that is what the federal judge temporarily halted. what the government is saying, essentially, that's how they're interpreting this order. i think for now that appears to be an agreed-upon legal territory. i think you're going to see more legal challenges tomorrow morning, possibly through the week, particularly on the issue that the white house believes it wants this to apply to green cardholders. if you're from these countries and hold a green card, you would have to go throug
