i'm chuck todd here in washington. we begin tonight with a giant mess. surrounding the president's threat to impose sweeping and mass iive tariffs on mexico unls it steps up its immigration enforcement. the question is why now? does it signal the president isn't eager if the impeachment. an administration official says this threat against mexico to impose penalties as high as 25% on all mexican goods was heurrid out the door to appease president trump. one says the threats were left intentionally vague so the white house had an easiy off ramp. evidence that this could be nothing but a bluff. get this, another source said the administration timed this threat knowing that there would likely be a seasonal drop in illegal immigration so the president can claim credit for something that was already expected to happen. in addition to the policy chaos, there's the blow back. sources tell nbc that the treasury secretary and the u.s. trade representative both oppose the move. business groups were not notified and relevant congressional committees were not even br

i'm chuck todd here in washington. welcome to "meet the press daily." we begin tonight with the biggest question facing democrats right now, how do they channel their rage against the president's attorney general bill barr. ? after barr gave testimony backing up the president's talking points on the mueller report, he skipped today's hearing before the house judiciary committee. he's still refusing to comply with subpoenas seeking the full unredacted mueller report. this afternoon we learned the white house wrote him a letter basically laying out the ways president trump may want to fight democrats over their access to both the mueller report's underlying evidence and its star witnesses. if the trump administration laying the groundwork to fight democrats over the terms of mueller's testimony, well, democrats are going to go, in a word, berserk. but their fights with barr right now show you the limits of what they can do. speaker pelosi today said that barr purgered himself when he testified. house judiciary committee chairman jerry nadler says he'll ho

i'm chuck todd here in washington. it's thursday. the president hopes to not to go to war with iran. democrats hope bob mueller wants to testify, and nancy pelosi hopes the threat of impeachment will force them to obey their subpoenas. we have a lot to get to tonight, but we begin with a freight train heading towards 2020. then honestly neither side seems to be ready for. floodgates are opening after alabama's governor kay ivy signed into law the country's most restrictive abortion law. >> now joined the wie of states passing some stricter anti-abortion rights bills. this one bans abortion at eight weeks, and like alabama, it does not include exceptions for rape and incest. abortion is an issue that republicans would usually say gives them the upper hand. these laws are in some cases draconian measures that they don't want to defend. democrats, on the other hand, usually run away from these kinds of fights because they fire up republican voters and can turn off independents. in this case democrats are the ones that are directly runni
