i'm chuck todd. a crisis appears to be worsening literally by the hour. the taliban took control of two major cities. it has nine provincial capitals. all signs that the taliban has far better military capabilities than they expected. that means the capital city of kabul could fall in a matter of weeks. some fear, believe it or not, even days. this map shows the territory controlled by the taliban in april. today you can see nearly two thirds of that man is now red. talking about a stunning advance leading the u.s. to have to deploy an additional 3,000 troops back to kabul temporarily not to assist in any military offensive to keep the taliban out of kabul, but simply to help secure the safe withdrawal of the remaining staff from the u.s. embassy. >> our first responsibility has always been protecting the safety and the security of our citizens serving in afghanistan and around the world. as we said all along the increased tempo of the taliban military engagement and the results increase in violence and instability across afghanistan is of grave concern.
