please join me in welcoming political director and moderator of "meet the press" chuck todd who has a preview of today's show. thanks for joining us this morning. it has been one year since russia invaded ukraine. joe biden, as we all know by now, visited kyiv this past week, showing the world that the united states will stand with ukraine for as long as it takes, which is what he said. you have national security adviser jake sullivan on your show today. i read from warsaw this past week with the president, he said what's important is rules-based international order. clearly, putin and russia are not in line with that way of thinking. so what is next in this war as we enter the second year? where is the war headed if we stay in it for as long as it takes, if the u.s. has any say? >> well, look, i think the best case scenario through the eyes of the u.s. is this -- that the next three months, ukraine has huge success pushing the russians back, breaking the land bridge between the donbas and crimea, and making the possibility that russia could lose crimea an option and russia comes to t

i touched on this briefly with chuck todd. can you paint a general picture how we got here?a has become a rival new york question about it. they're a huge economic and now military power. three issues come to mind. first, they are an economic power in australia, in africa, where they are investing billions of dollars to withdraw minerals, precious minerals that we use for electric batteries and other things like that. secondly, of course, there's the relationship that they have in the south pacific. the south pacific is very important. it's a major shipping channel. because it is a major shipping channel, the chinese presence -- they constructed an artificial island for military planes. and then there's taiwan, the relationship, taiwan is 100 miles away. the chinese have said since the chinese left to go to taiwan after world war ii, that this is theirs. and the taiwanese government feels differently, and there's a tension there. you put those three things together, and we have a lot of issues with china. they have only become more explosive with this balloon. >> okay. so au

please join me in welcoming chuck todd. thank you for joining us this morning. i have so much to talk about every week. i want to go back to tuesday's state of the union address, and that viral moment when joe biden called out some republicans for wants to cut medicare and social security in that raucous set of boos, calling him a liar, which essentially put biden in a position to accept that response as an agreement from the gop to keep those entitlements in tact. but the heckling, it did not stop there. so my question is, here we stand divided as ever. you have an interesting interview, a joint interview with governors from both sides of the aisle. what are you sensing? is there hope or working across the aisle as we already look to 2024? >> i can tell you this, the governors enjoy using i think congress as a foyle. hey, we're not this way, i wish you could hear the debate governors have. one was talking about the governor of washington state, the governor of north dakota had an off camera debate about energy. the governor of washington wants to decarbonize qu

chuck todd is nbc's political director and moderator of "meet the press." chuck, good morning. so we can add this to everything president biden has in front of him right now with ukraine, with classified documents, with the debt ceiling now facing a republican house of representatives. what is the message in the state of the union? >> i think that's a great question. i'm curious. on one hand we know he's going to make a case that things are going well. the biden economic plan is working. he already said that on friday. we'll get a repeat of that. that's my curiosity about the state of the union, willie, is how much of it is going to feel like a setup of a potential re-election campaign and how much of it is going to be an agenda that he would like to accomplish in divided government. and two issues i'm watching for to see how serious the biden white house is about trying to govern with republicans. police reform and immigration reform. arguably those two only can happen with bipartisan buy-in. in theory divided government is the only chance to tackle both of those issues. how m
