you are talking to the camera, and somebody comes by and shelves "connie chung." that is the only asian-american that they have heard up as a newscaster. i am glad i can be out there and say she is not the only one. there was a local anger for the 5:00 and 11:00 news on abc -- a local anchor, and for me she was the first chinese-american i had ever seen on tv. i wrote her letter when i was 11 and told her i was a big fan and that i wanted to become a newscaster when i grew up. she invited me and my mom to the set and we met everybody. i have a picture of me sitting there with her on the set. years later i was on bloomberg and we used to do that cut-ins' for channel 11 here in new york. we had a moment where she tossed it to me. i cannot believe it was happening. >> have you talked to her since all this? >> i have not, directly. >> issue still active? >> yes, she is still out there. >> when you got out of harvard, where did you go? >> i was a management consultant at mercer management consulting in boston. >> consulting about what? >> restructured businesses. i did

first one comes from annie chung. where is she? from self help for the elderly. >> thank you very much. tonight, we brought out about 1% of the seniors that we serve in district 10. many of them came from visitation valley and bayview- hunters point, and a couple of them just got here because they got lost. thank you for providing the translation so our seniors feel they could participate in these very difficult budget hearings. how can our city make a pledge that you will never abandon and always protect the most vulnerable? because the seniors in district 10 -- these are very frail seniors. low-income, immigrant seniors who need a lot of services. we have over 20 years built up the safety net services so they could have activities and nutritious meals. homebound seniors get home- delivered meals. we also serve citizenship class is and case management. if the department of aging cuts the 10% contingency cut, it would mean a total of almost $250,000 loss for our services in district 10 and other districts. i hope that you know that

i selected annie chung this year that she continues her great work. you can see her senior centers all over the city servicing clientele. you can see that she has gone well beyond just senior centers, that she is in meals programs. that she has also served on various committees that help us way beyond the traditional senior programs. for example, i served with her way back when it was pacbell. then it became sbc. then back to at&t. she is advising verizon and others because she knows as well as i do that communication and the way we communicate has been evolving. and if we do not keep our seniors involved in that, they will be left behind. as many other groups are left behind when it comes to technology, says she has gone ahead of them. that is a woman who has been for seeing what will occur in future generations of the city. that is the kind of leadership i wanted to recognize tonight. on behalf of the city and county of san francisco and also to join the other honorees that the board of supervisors has mentioned, i wanted to give this proclamation t
