is it $8.40 now for a pack of cigarettes in philadelphia? >> reporter: it seems expensive to so many people who don't smoke, but yes, that's the highest price people will pay here at this wah-wah. i just stepped inside to talk to the workers and they said they began changing the signs, adding the $2 just after midnight. right now here at this particular convenience store, the price ranges from $7.10 to $8.40 per pack of cigarettes. now, as we've been telling you now for a couple of weeks, $2 more when you purchase a pack of cigarettes. state lawmakers approved the measure last week, largely along party lines. governor corbett signed the bill into law, which helps the cash-strapped philadelphia school district fill an $80 million-plus gadgp, but school officials tell us they only expect to collect about $49 million this year. you may recall, superintendent hite announced $32 million in cuts in august so the schools could open on time, and the district is continuing to call on the teachers union to make concessions. we've seen one or two smoke
