cisco doesn't give guidance until the call. that's going to be important, as a lot of companies in the space, not just cisco, have been talking about the back half of the year, being where they expect to see the growth coming. cisco has continued to be a good bellwether as far as their sense of the channel, of demand from end customers and the enterprise. so if their guidance is a little bit more bullish, that's good for everybody. if it's not, that could signal some trouble. not just for cisco, but for all these other companies, your ibms included, who have said the back half of the year is where they expect to see more significant growth to meet their annual targets. >> all right, jon fortt, cisco shares again, tested 4%. they're now about 3.7% here for this company. also note too as bellwether. >> mark sue, did you hear the margin numbers you were after? >> i think directionally, the margins are moving in the right way. if last year was one of the big years for us, there was no real floor to the margin, and we were very conc

cisco is the largest company. even after their 2013 runs, they're worth $127 billion and $284 billion. microsoft is a lot bigger than cisco. even while i can easily argue they are much better companies with slightly better balance sheets, these comparisons represent that this market simply isn't frothy. sure, it could be a prelude to froth, but these aren't reckless valuations, particularly when you throw in that microsoft and cisco deal around 2.8%, which even after taxes is twice as good a return as what you get from the ten-year treasury. if you factor in the tax differential, remember the dividends are taxed much more favorably than income from bonds, cisco and microsoft were brimming with cash. like many others in the nasdaq, they can easily take the dividends much higher. lets be more definitive. yes, among the cheapest, we now would be flabbergasted with those valuations. we'd be, sell, sell, sell, every minute. needless to say, nasdaq's leader apple only sells at 10 times earning, which represents, frankly

i mean, set us up for why cisco may or may not be -- or ibm may or may not be a proxy for cisco at thisnt. >> well, i think it's going to be a tough sales quarter and a tough sales outlook. so, you look across you know, our i.t. landscape that we cover, we cut numbers in 75% of the companies for the june quarter after they reported. if you look at big players like oracle, ibm, companies like f-5, the networking, it's definitely been a tough demand environment. i think what investors are counting on from cisco is that they continue to execute on margins and continue to execute on their go-to-market strategy. so, cisco's no longer the big growth company that we used to think about, which is fine. you know, there may be a eps grower, but it's a value stock. >> but it seems like investors are getting used to it being more of an 8% growth story rather than a 50% growth story, as it maybe was in the late '90s, but when you think about the margins, which you mentioned, i know you think that mansion margins will improve slightly or at least stay the same. i mean, they're at 61%, 62%. the margin

cisco traded at 2.34 times book with fewer revenues.take that valuation and guess four times book you're looking at $24. about a 14% upside. and then finally, yield, woo ef been talking about it all show. 3% yield on this stock. i don't see how you can go wrong, looks like a bargain to me. >> great points by b.k. point number one absolutely true, but you better hope that cisco dominates that space or it's somewhat meaningless to them. look at the last quarter, it wasn't particularly great. then you go and look at the trend in the stock. since the late 2007 when it topped out at 33 it's been in a very well-defined down trend marked by spikes along the way in the midst of now, i think it's going to be another opportunity to see the stock and going to see that after they report. and i believe this deteriorating macro environment which i believe we're right smack in the midst of is going to weigh on the gross margins. and i believe that margins are everything to the cisco quarters going forward. >> all right. >> well, there we go. >> pretty

i always loved sanford cisco in college, and i just wanted to try it out. i started working in economic development policy. i was a community organizer for six years. i worked with young people, parents, and families around issues that concern our neighborhoods, whether it was improving muni lines, affordable housing, public schools, or just planning issues in neighborhoods. we just had a hearing last week, and we are trying to do some work around bedbug enforcement, which is a major issue in the tenderloin and of hill and 63. a hearing will actually be on thursday, april 7, 10:30. we're doing our first hearing on pedestrian safety. i think public safety is a huge concern. it ranges from both low-level crimes to pedestrian safety, and so that is a really important issue to me. we are probably more than double what every other district has. and that are preventable. and we can do better. district 6 is one -- home to one of the most diverse constituencies. we have the poorest residents in san francisco. we have lgbt. we have immigrants, people of color, youth

- you know, cisco always under- reports and over-delivers. the stock was trading up after yesterday's close about 5%, so i think it could go up a little bit, but really if you look at cisco in general, it is only up 1.5% for the entire year. so, i don't really think that, although it's good news, i don't think it is going to have much effect or push this market much higher. - and you mentioned google, which is now in uncharted territories. is there any reason to buy this stock at these levels? - absolutely not. i think that in the overall market, if you're an investor, you're better off observing the market and waiting for a better opportunity. obviously, if you are a trader and you are a professional, you can play around a little bit. but, for an investor, you want to sit back and observe these markets. they are totally like playing monopoly right now, and the money is flowing in freely, and we are in what we call a blowoff condition: the market just goes up, up, up, regardless of price and time. - thank you todd. have a good trading day. -

on wednesday, may 15th, we will be hosting 50 workshops at the severn cisco state downtown campus i want to thank sf state for accommodating us. the office of small businesses planning seven workshops; i'm going to be involved in two of those myself. on thursday may 16th will be having the awards ceremony at the city club. that is confirmed. you will all be getting your invites here by next week. on tuesday may 14th we have the mega meg with the lgbt center with mumsy and -- association. on saturday may 18th have sidewalk sales; we are excited that we have 17 participating, for a while we were only getting three or four. again i would like to thank the office of small business for the outreach. when some of these neighborhoods see what the other neighborhoods are doing is catching on; i am excited that we have 17 neighborhoods here. we had a fundraising goal of 170,000 and a fundraising goal we met and raised 187,000. so thank you everybody who was involved in that. lots of phone calls. that is my president's report. we are on the buses now. the guides are in; we have guides in the offic
