city hall. october 17th, 1989 was an exciting day. the giants had made it to the world series for the first time since 1962. they were playing the oakland athletics. i was on my home to pick up hi son ivan and was going to take him to candlestick park and as the bus turned, it began to sway violently. i thought we had been in an accident and quickly realized there had been an earthquake. later that evening, my brother, mark, arrived with juliette. the world series game had been canceled and ivan, mark and i drove across town. people had taken it upon themselves to direct traffic through major intersections like garry that was uncontrolled when the loss of power shut down the street lights. coming upon the marina, we saw an extraordinary spectacle, emergency personnel and citizens were frantically engaged in a fight to save the district and many people strolled taking in the spectacle as if they were at the boardwalk and others were wandering about apparently unable to grasp what was handling. my

in greening the city spaces. if you're not familiar with it, greening the city is a great local nonprofit in helping the residents restore the canopy and the habitat. i'm also currently serving a four-year term on the san francisco bay restoration committee. you might wonder why i want to serve on the urban forest council. i would like to help enhance the health of the san francisco urban forest street tree canopy. i believe better informed residents can be great asset and partners in a mission to have healthy citywide tree canopy. i would also like to find solutions to have needed resources to have reliable and systemic maintenance for the city's trees. my daughter and i both have planted over 20 trees in the city. we think it's a joy that can be enjoyed by so many, including by birds and animals. friends of urban forests has given me rich experiences, and reminds me of the diverse work that's being done to build a sustainable city. i have an economics and management background with a master's in environmental m

and would not lead the city in a repute. we would not want to approve employment, necessarily have a great example, and i don't want to be put on record for that. things that would involve moral turpitude are things we would not approve. the other thing, and this has really come out of years of us reviewing these is wanting to make sure that the outside employment doesn't impede or affect the employee, this case the city employee's regular work schedule. i highlighted an example yet -- earlier where we would not want a firefighter, or somebody that works in a safety sensitive job to have worked all night on a grave shift and then come in i work a regular city shift. we have a strong belief that that would impede their ability to perform the functions of their job. the other thing that has come up that we are working actively with departments on is, it would be in conflict if an employee was going to take vacation, or in worst case scenario take sick leave and then work outside employment. those are things we are working prim
