we got two predominantly black city council. you have a lot of cities like this. you know black political leadership. how you explain this these sort of predatory tax practices happening in the midst of black political leadership. i think, again, what thing one thing i bring up really points is the structural constraints. local governments and especially majority black cities face in that, you know, they're working within a fiscal structure that inherently disadvantages majority black and and cities that already facing economic contraction in many ways the fiscal system we live under today actually punishes the poor and rewards the wealthy and kind of exacerbates inequalities between places and. so one of the sort of takeaways that i hope, you know, readers can begin to see is it's not it's it's not worth sort of pointing the finger and blaming individual public officials working at the local level because they're working within a system that you know, in which the cards are often really stacked them. now that's to say that oftentimes, you know, local can maybe al

and a safe city. so that was really good news. so we plan to be fully deployed this weekend for fleet week and invite people to come to the city to have a great time on to crime trends. we are still down 32% overall in crime. this this year. that's about a 13,000 reduction in overall crimes or property crimes at 34%, down about a 12,000 crime reduction. a little over 12,000 violent crimes are down 14%. and that is about a 600 fewer crimes than this time last year. violent crimes led by homicides. there is a 42% reduction, 42 last year compared to 24 this year, although that number will go down just a little bit. we had an incident today that stemmed from a august incident in which the person died today. so that incident will the medical examiner has determined that a homicide so that'll bring us up to 25, which is still significantly below this time last year. and actually it's lower than it's been this time of year for the last five years. so we're on a really good pace there. homicide clearance rate

but it's not the only city in the bay area. ultimately san francisco and oakland will also be having those speed cameras in their particular cities. san jose hopes this will be installed throughout the city and they want to do it fair. they'll have it tougher neighborhoods, low-income neighborhoods to the more affluent neighborhoods. so they have a wide swath places where people will be told to slow down. and james reyna some cameras, obviously a smile when you're caught on camera. this one will make you probably cry and for good reason because they want people to stay alive within the city. of course, back to you. that's the end goal will. thank you very much. also happening in the south bay, san jose city officials have expanded paid family leave. >> for all the city's major unions, including police, the san jose police department. as of october 22nd, the amount of paid leave was extended 40 hours to 320. this benefit is part of last year's negotiations with the coalition of city employee unions after workers threaten to stri
