understand the timeline of the campus building retrofitting and when the campus will open at city college. earlier this year the civic center campus of city college of san francisco closed suddenly due to an emergency seismic safety concern the friday before classes were scheduled to begin and many of the students didn't find out about the closure until they saw the sign posted on the building door. the esl the esl class provided a vital service for many of our large immigrant communities and the campus offered a computer class to the surrounding tenderloin community helping to address the digital divide and having a central city campus is essential for working class families to help prepare for further training and education. i've heard as many as a third of students were unable to continue their education either because they could not afford the cost of transit to another campus far away or they could not fit the commute time into their work schedules as they balance families and other obligations. it's important that city college do what it can to help our dedicated san francisco residents in receiving the best education possible. they still have not identifie

. >> item 30 is a resolution to urge the administration of city college of san francisco to present the campus at 750 eddie street in the classrooms for all classes that have been displayed by the student and to pursue higher education. >> supervisors christensen. >> i'll try to be brief. i just wanted to thank supervisor kim for bringing this matter to our attention and for me to be a cosponsor to it which i'm happy to do. i looked further into the matter and i think it is stressing. we talked about how important it is and the effort to draw the need to save it. this situation is distressing all, not only because of the abrupt closing but there was before knowledge of this happening but not much action to mend it and litigate it with no notice to the students. as two of the students mentioned, there is an effort on the way to provide a temporary location but if there's something we can do as supervisors on the board to encourage a more permanent solution, we should do it. another supervisors stated there's a significant amount of money at risk if the building is not opened in 3 years.

we thank the department of the environment with working with the city college of san francisco, and the san francisco public utilities commission to locate a collection bin at the southeast community center to give bay view residents to take their unwanted medication. the walgreens along third street should participate. they should help our community by keeping medicines out of the hands of kids who may abuse it. much has been said about the shared responsibility by the testimony today by the folks who are taking responsibility are the city and us rate payers, not tax payers, but rate payers. it's time for -- i'm a water customer and i pay my bills on time and the water utility in san francisco uses my money to educate those not to flush pharmaceutical down the toilet. recology uses money to educate consumers not to put their medicines in the trash. i get that too. that's also my shared responsibility. but what about the drug manufacturers and their shared responsibility. whether they're in paris, or even zurick. how are they contributing to keeping the medicine out of our bay. speaker:
