there's a great tool that have actually reduced the number of people that are detained at city ha hall. i saw 1 hundred and 50 but it hovered around 1 hundred and thirty but now, it's like 90, 80, 45 which is remarkable. now we also have a very strong community assessment referral center known as caterpillar of young people before they would get into the juvenile hall system. that's why i'm taken auerbach to arm our probation officer officers. i understand the need for officers to feel safe in the environment but i find it difficult to find that bringing more guns into the city will be a good way to do their work. in the of, of course, i mentioned the light of '92 town it's difficult to promote to have morgan use age. what's also unique right now is we're seeing that youth crime is at is lowest level it's been for a long time. i've seen a gentleman doing a lot of work around youth violence and we've seen the lottery number in 2000 we had 6 percent down and in the 60 and 70s youth arrest is high and annoy in 2011 we're seeing 4 percent. so in the 1990s the homicide rate for san francisc

honestly, that is not something city hall has done in good enough job with. in many ways, we at city hall feel we're off the hook in that area, that we do not have to worry about our public schools, that other people haven't covered. i think the city can do a tremendous amount. it can do a tremendous amount for our families. one thing i learned from my predecessor, chris daly, is what we can do to ensure we are prioritizing parts and affordable housing for our families and -- prioritizing parks and affordable housing for our families. i think that we need to support things that our schools cannot fund, like summer school. i would love for our city, in better revenue years, to have the longest school year and the longest school day, to really model for the rest of california what you can do if you really fund schools. so, that is the third area. hopefully we will kickstart our economy back up again. >> it looks like we are out of time. i want to thank you for joining us today. supervisor kim: thank you. >> we have been talking to supervisor of jane kim. watch f

the fact that we have not done much about that in city hall i think has it change. that certainly is something i will be focused on in the beginning here in city hall. putting people back to work. it is an individual issue but it is a family issue and we've a lot of families still struggling and i think people have lost sight of that. hopefully we will be getting out of the recession soon but we need to do a lot to accelerate getting out of that recession, making sure families are back at work and children are provided for. to me that is my biggest priority. i think that we do lose a lot of sight in the past district supervisors lost sight of the fact that we do represent san francisco as a whole and we need to make sure in city hall we are enacting policies, laws and legislation that move the city forward as a whole. these are the neighborhoods i grew up in, so for me it is fun to be in them to really understand what is going on and be able it fundamentals some of the thinking and some of the people that are making decisions. >> right here we played football. flag f

city government. he has always been a cherished colleague and friend to everyone in city hall. he's done the job, he gets the job done, never wanting credit, just the satisfaction of doing the right thing for the people he serves in the city and county of san francisco. i was thinking about the introduction of mayor ed lee lastity and we'll taking the time to think about ed as mayor and ed as leader. i've been lucky to know every single mayor in san francisco since my birth and mayor lee is quickly taking his place among the very best. i've seen ed grow into the mayor's role with great ease and aplomb and there's no surprise there. mayor lee is focusing on young people and guiding a rebust economic rebirth in san francisco. his interest in young people is quite genuine and he meets regularly with middle school principals, focusing on critical years for kids to stay engage the in school. recognizing that mayors can have tremendous impact in their communities, he co-sponsored the legislation to eradicate bullying from schools at the 2012 con conference of mayors. he is here today
