it's very common thing in city hall. it's encouraged, it's part of the democratic process and people work with supervisors and departments all the time to solve issues that are confronting their neighborhoods, their communities, transportation, land use, anything, you name it. that's the type of situation or person that the commission has to decide, i'm distinguishable from, because those people have influence and influence is a common part of city hall -- the city hall world and any other governmental environment, as i say, it's part of the democratic process. you have to decide i'm distinguishable from all those groups because of my 10 months of experience working in a supervisor's office on relatively low-level matters and without a lot of political background. i can imagine that there would be reasonable concern about undue influence or unfair advantage in my circumstance were it to be the case that supervisor mirkarimi were still a supervisor and i had worked for him and i had left and there was potential that i wou

welcome to city hall, your city hall. i wanted to make sure -- i know supervisor mirkarimi is here. supervisor jane kim is also here. they are both here because i know both have a strong commitment to our youth in san francisco. i want to welcome all of you here tonight for two reasons. one, i know we are going to give some awards out for our youth leaders, but the other reason i wanted to make sure you had a good invitation to come to city hall tonight was because we have been waiting for one of you to register, wondering if you are going to run for mayor or not. there is a vacant seat for youth to lead the city. i think you can take this job and run with it. this city needs to be more kid- friendly, more youth-oriented. i think you could have a big input to make sure that what we are doing will be there for you to raise families as well. i want to congratulate all the nominees tonight. all of you who have been participating in this competition for the fellowship have been doing great work. i have been reading through some of the accomplishments that you are a part of. i got to mee

i'm manager of the tour program as well as i am the historyian of city hall. this building is multifaceted to say the very least it's a municipal building that operates the city and county of san francisco. this building was a dream that became a reality of a man by the name of james junior elected mayor of san francisco in 1912. he didn't have a city hall because it was destroyed in the earth wake of 1906. construction began in april of 1913. in december 1915, the building was complete. it opened it's doors in january 1916. >> it's a wonderful experience to come to a building built like this. the building is built as a palace. not for a king or queen. it's built for all people. this building is beautiful art. those are architecture at the time when city hall was built, san francisco had an enormous french population. therefore building a palace in the art tradition is not unusual. >> jimmie was an incredible individual he knew that san francisco had to regain it's place in the world. he decided to have the tallest dome built in the united states. it's now stan

now complaints have led that woman into a battle with city hall. linda stewart has names for the exotic birds that fill her home and yard. there are hundreds of colorful birds. and she says their health proves of how well she cares for the birds. >> i have a girl over there, she's 30 years old. if i wasn't doing it right i don't think she would still be with us. >> reporter: but agencies don't agree. a bird rescue group called the living conditions filthy, overcrowded and noisy. stewart says she's had up to 400 birds here and with family support it's not too many. >> if you have enough people coming in and help you with the taking care of everything, absolutely nothing. i know people who have 6,000. >> reporter: officials told me there is no regulation on the number of pet that is can be kept as pets but stewart has been told that she cannot breed any of the birds. stewart says that she has to sell some of them to pay for expenses. >> the city has been coming to people like mist and trying to shut us down for one reason or another. most people leav
