it's very common thing in city hall. it's encouraged, it's part of the democratic process and people work with supervisors and departments all the time to solve issues that are confronting their neighborhoods, their communities, transportation, land use, anything, you name it. that's the type of situation or person that the commission has to decide, i'm distinguishable from, because those people have influence and influence is a common part of city hall -- the city hall world and any other governmental environment, as i say, it's part of the democratic process. you have to decide i'm distinguishable from all those groups because of my 10 months of experience working in a supervisor's office on relatively low-level matters and without a lot of political background. i can imagine that there would be reasonable concern about undue influence or unfair advantage in my circumstance were it to be the case that supervisor mirkarimi were still a supervisor and i had worked for him and i had left and there was potential that i wou

i'm manager of the tour program as well as i am the historyian of city hall. this building is multifaceted to say the very least it's a municipal building that operates the city and county of san francisco. this building was a dream that became a reality of a man by the name of james junior elected mayor of san francisco in 1912. he didn't have a city hall because it was destroyed in the earth wake of 1906. construction began in april of 1913. in december 1915, the building was complete. it opened it's doors in january 1916. >> it's a wonderful experience to come to a building built like this. the building is built as a palace. not for a king or queen. it's built for all people. this building is beautiful art. those are architecture at the time when city hall was built, san francisco had an enormous french population. therefore building a palace in the art tradition is not unusual. >> jimmie was an incredible individual he knew that san francisco had to regain it's place in the world. he decided to have the tallest dome built in the united states. it's now stan

lost sight of the fact that we do represent san francisco as a whole and we need to make sure in city hall we are enacting policies, laws and legislation that move the city forward as a whole. these are the neighborhoods i grew up in, so for me it is fun to be in them to really understand what is going on and be able it fundamentals some of the thinking and some of the people that are making decisions. >> right here we played football. flag football right here every year. we hung out right in the gym. directors looked after us. parents used to check in but not only one parent, they checked on all the kids. that is what is great about this district, the community. the family base of everything. >> exactly. and look how you turned out. you are doing ok. >> doing all right. two local city guys. >> there you go.

the worst thing is to have kids in neighborhood say, downtown and city hall, they get the jobs and create businesses and they make those tax decisions, but it does not touch me. it is not about me. how do we do that in the city, where it is so exciting these days to invite our technology companies to come together and work with us? that has been on my mind for a long time. it was there years ago when we struggled with this concept called digital divide. remember that? technology is moving ahead, apple and everybody is in silicon valley and they are creating these wonderful machines, but not for us. we have to catch up in some way, and if we're lucky, we can get one of these jobs. i do not want to depend on luck any more. it should be part of the way we think in this city. when we create opportunities for businesses to thrive here, when recreate jobs, when i invite twitter to stay in the city and have that decision resonate, working with supervisors like mark farrell, and jane kim, we all work together. we have to think several steps ahead. the most exciting thing is to have a san francisc
