as for the services, a touching tribute here at san francisco city hall. were dianne feinstein started her career. she led the city through some of the darkest times including the assassination of the former mayor and harvey mills. she went on to be a senator for 30+ years. mayor london breed opened the sarah miss -- service and she remembered which was a little girl in the 70s and she said dianne feinstein was such an admission to her and helped guide her when she became a member of the county board of supervisors. >> as far as i ever knew dianne feinstein was the mayor. for kids my age she accepted that a woman could be in charge and a woman could do whatever man could do. we believed that he considered it normal. it was her word that meant the most when i became the second woman to be mayor of the city in the wake of tragedy. it was her advice on how to heal and lead they give me strength. >> reporter: doug emhoff came in from washington d.c. and landed at san francisco again darkly to the service. the vice president spoke fondly of her colleague and cal

and earlier today, a motor cade of sfpd officers brought her body to city hall. the city's first responders lined the staircase as the casket was brought up to the rotunda. all day long, lines of mourners have been filing in to honor feinstein. our team of reporters has been there all day, both inside and outside city hall. christie smith has been speaking with mourners who lined up to pay their final respects. we will get to her in a little bit. but first sergio quintana joins us. those memorial plans changed dramatically within the past hour, yes? >> reporter: yeah. we got word about an hour ago that what was supposed to be a public memorial tomorrow out here on the steps of san francisco hall has now been closed to the public in part because of security concerns because of a lot of colleagues and other people in federal government are coming, including the vice president. and you can see some of the setup for tomorrow is still in progress. this morning, as it was mentioned, her remains arrived at city hall for a day long viewing. you could hear a pin drop as th

the building here at city hall. but you can clearly see i was only a few feet away from you can clearly see that she was very emotional. in fact, she helped escort senator dianne feinstein's body back to san francisco from washington, d.c., when she found out the news on friday that at the age of 90 years old senator dianne feinstein died while in office and what a careers. 31 years as senator, the longest serving senator in california history, the first female senator and before that, of course, she was supervisor for city hall at city hall and then ultimately became mayor from 1978 to 19 88. so lots going on with their very busy. we are going to try to head inside just to show you things look. but a lot of people coming out, guys, just seeing them. they don't want to talk. but you can clearly see they are emotional and i'm not just talking about congresswoman pelosi, just members of the public. that's how much dianne feinstein meant to the city of san francisco. back to all right. thanks so much. well, well, put.

right behind me on the front steps of san francisco city hall. exactly where senator feinstein would have wanted it. she was born and raised in san francisco. this is where she started her political career in 1969 when she was the first woman to be elected to the san francisco board of supervisors. she went on to become mayor of san francisco and served the city for 20 years before being elected to the u.s. senate in 1992. from there she would serve as senator representing california for over 30 years. she worked until the day she died. last thursday she was on the senate floor casting a vote to advance a bill to prevent a government shutdown. that bill was passed and signed by president biden over the weekend. she died that night thursday night. her last action on the senate floor. she literally worked until the day she died. it was echoed throughout the tribute. she was so dedicated to the city and country. so many big political heavyweights showed up to the service. governor gavin newsom was here. there he is hugging the second gentleman doug

a live look outside san francisco city hall. an extra ordinarily warm and sunny day as many people are coming to city hall to remember and honor the late california senator dianne feinstein. family and friends will be gathering for an invitation only memorial service today honoring the former san francisco board of supervisors member who became the mayor in a time of tragedy. the shooting deaths of mayor george moscone and supervisor harvey milk. she then went on to become the longest serving female senator in this country's history. and focused much of her policy efforts on gun control and public safety. in the 30 plus years she served our nation. thank you so much for being with us. it has been a busy, busy week. the stage is now set outside city hall for today's memorial for senator dianne feinstein. plans for a public memorial service have changed dramatically, and the service is now by invitation only. ktvu allie rasmus shows us what it looks like. the road closures in place and what you need to know about changes in plans.

city hall at 11. well, the california highway patrol they agreed to pay 7 million dollars settle a shooting that killed erik salgado in 2020. the 23 year-old was shot more than a dozen times kron four's amanda hari got a chance to talk to his sister about how she's feeling after the settlement. >> it's been more than 3 years since. 23 year-old erick salgado was shot and killed by a chp officer back on june 6 twenty-twenty his sister a jail blanco says she's been fighting for justice since that day. >> i've had to change. my whole life the work that i do now very similar to my life experiences. and i support of their families also lost their loved ones police. police say they were chasing salgado who they say had stolen a car. >> he then crashed into 2 patrol cars in san leandro. officers fired at salgado hitting him more than a dozen times. his pregnant girlfriend was also in the car at the time of the crash. she was injured and unborn baby did not survive. so daughter leaves behind a 6 year-old daugh
