and that is not a city landmark. the guy who owns it is very aware of its significance as maybe the last and best example of a carville house. he really wants to take care of it. i don't know if he would go forward with any landmark designation just because like a lot of homeowners he doesn't want to be at all boxed in with what he can do. but that's kind of where we are. i think it is a landmark. if anything had to come up, i would definitely nominate it as one. the other examples of carville houses, there's one on 47th avenue where the cars have been basically removed and all you've really got left is perhaps the floors of a couple of cars. it was a great example until, i guess, the late 1950's. and whoever bought house decided to take out most of the woodwork. that might be the only one, the one on great highway. >> i mentioned one of the problems with plumbing with these carville homes. i was wondering at what point in history did outhouses become illegal in san francisco? >> i'm not sure of that. but outhouses w

stat to make the mother's building a city landmark, although it was a national landmark, and we also need to look at the long-term goals so we make sure that what happens at the mother's building in coy tower doesn't have again and that we set up -- i've been talking to david chu's office for setting up a citizen's advisory committee or some type of committee that can work with the art commission at rec and park to help manage these issues so that there is communications between the two departments and that we don't let our heritage fall in disrepair like what has happened, and since i've been talking to a lot of people, not many people have been inside the building and want to see inside the building, so maybe either rec and park or the zoo can have a little mini open house so that people can go in and see for themselves the current condition of the mother's building, and i think it's all more important to what happened to the zoo house, and thank you for your consideration. >> thank you. >> okay, we have time for one more under this

the sky is pink over san francisco, but all of the city landmarks were lit up in red and gold in anticipation of today's nfc championship game. for that game, 49ers star wide receiver michael crabtree is expected to take the field for that game against the atlanta falcons. however, he will have some distraction. there is an ongoing investigation into an alleged sexual assault. crabtree voluntarily met with san francisco police on friday before boarding the team's afternoon flight to atlanta. police say the allegation involves crabtree inside a san francisco hotel last sunday morning, after the 49ers beat the packers. crabtree was not detained nor arrested. his lawyer releasing this statement says, quote, michael fully cooperated with the inspectors and will continue to do so throughout the investigation. out of respect and integrity for the process, we have no further comment at this time. nbc bay area legal analyst steven clark said the allegations against crabtree can carry serious penalties, but he does not believe the district attorney will rush this case. >> they're going to want to look

has a windows replacement standards document that requires that all buildings in the city,joprx just buildings in landmarkricts or even identified eligible landmark districts or even any random building, if it originally had wood windows, the department requires that any replacement windows also be wood. so this comes up frequently. it came up frequently in the -- process, and we did try to address this and emphasized that currently, one cannot replace windows that were historically wood with vinyl windows. regardless of this landmark designation. so that's another option. and because we have these window replacement standards, the department is -- has proposed, in the designation ordinance, that the review of windows for wood windows would not require a certificate of appropriateness. so it wouldn't be additional review if they are wood windows. >> but about in some cases this would be by virtue of this being a landmark vict. >> in it some cases we have a long designation -- or tailored for certain scopes of work with the goal of putting the larger scopes of work, larger visible horizonal or vertical add

supervisors is the body that started the landmarking process, and it continues to landmark the building through other cityagencies like the planning commission. the board of supervisors adopted a resolution which initiated the then fact finding process to determine whether or not 1601 larkin should be designated a local landmark. that went to the then-advisory historic preservation commission. and to this body, that made a recommendation to the board of supervisors that it be designated a local landmark but the board never took that action. and we were involved in the litigation back in -- through 2007 through 2009. so what the project sponsor and the property owner argued and there's no use appealing the supervisors because the board of supervisors wanted to designate it as a local landmark. so why should we go to the board of supervisors to ask permission to tear it down and build condos when they have already indicated that they wanted to be designated a local landmark. and what we argued in the trial court and in the court of appeal that, as a matter of law, that that is insufficient. another argument

city, utah. this week marks the 40th anniversary of roe v wade, the landmark supreme court ruling that established the right to abortion. a new poll coinciding with the anniversary shows a record 70% of americans oppose overturning roe v. wade. for the first time on record, a majority believe abortion should be legal in all or most cases. despite the apparent shift in public opinion, abortion rights remain under siege. last year saw u.s. states enact the second highest number of anti-choice restrictions in history. recent restrictions include a wave of state bans on abortion in later stages of pregnancy. here at the sundance film festival, a remarkable new film follows the only four doctors left in the u.s. to openly provide abortions in the third trimester. the film is called, "after tiller" after dr. george tiller, a man who performed the third trimester abortions despite constant threats and attacks from anti-abortion extremists. tiller's clinic was firebombed in 1985. eight years later, he survived an assassination attempt. then on may 31, 2009, dr. george tiller was gunned down by scott roede
