their electric utilities, municipalities, and they are ngo's as well, including cities like san francisco. i wanted to personally take this moment to applaud the city of san francisco for leading the way in electrification under mayor lee's leadership. and really, the last example i want to share is whenever i travel around the country, i use examples that i get from the city of san francisco as some of the ways they want to understand how they can become electrify -- what do they do? how do they do it? i use many examples from this great city. i wanted to applaud you again for that. we do have the focus electric. if you do have extensive empty water bottles, we take them over there. with a partnership, we recycle those. and the cloth seats in the focus electric are made out of that material. if you get a chance, come over and see that. and we had our gatecrashers -- we have our mobile app. thank you. [applause] >> san francisco recreation and parks department for hosting us here today. i am the president and ceo of recology. we're here to celebrate another environmental success for the city of san francisco. in 1996, we began taking food waste and trying to figure out what to do with it and realized we could composted. we begin a collection program on a pilot basis in 1997, but by about 2006 or so that program was then offered to every resident, every business in the city. we are now taking about 600 tons a day of organic matter and turning it into compost. it is a program that everyone in the city has participated in. if you have never put anything in a green bin. every restaurant, business, resident, and school all have participated. we met at their restaurant at fisherman's wharf last november to acknowledge that we had collected 1 million tons of organic matter that could be composted, and now today we have returned the product of that 1 million tons here to how many farms that

san francisco. mayor lee was elected as the first chinese american mayor of san francisco. i am in favor of moving this forward and it is good to look at san francisco's needs city- wide in a health care master plan, but it does not control individual hospitals. >> of the master plan is not anticipated to be final for about another year. >> held the san francisco, understand the northeast medical service is one of the biggest providers for healthy san francisco. from what i have been told, they have the largest share of the healthy san francisco patients. i believe that is 13,000 patients. another charitable party that is not necessarily included in what we have seen so far. what were the other topics we were supposed to talk about? the other question is trying to make st. luke's larger in cathedral hill smaller. it has been pointed out quite accurately that community hospitals and smaller hospitals treat normal medical problems and normal deliveries. there will be full service at st. luke's, so most of the things that you might have our routine surgery, routine procedures that require hospitalization. if there are a specialty problems and an at-risk deliverer -- and delive

trend in this project that shifts cost and responsibility and in providing health care to the city, san francisco taxpayers and your budget that the city of san francisco is currently struggling with right now. you know, there has been a lot of stories about the health care that people have received, which is great. it's a hospital. they're supposed to provide health care. it's like saying that our nurses took care of them in the hospital. they're supposed to do that. the problem is they still don't do enough, even with everything that they do, the deal says that they can do less charity care than they are currently doing now. so they actually can lower the bar when it comes to charity care and it's been a fight for years to get them to do their fair share around charity care. in the area of cathedral hill, this is not an area where the environmental impacts can be mitigated in this plan. they cannot. you can't say that you increase traffic and somehow the impacts go down. there are so many faulty pieces in this plan that they have put forward that don't really explore the alternative where you w

city. san francisco is a forward- thinking city. with that, i want to bring up the director of the department, melanie nutter. >> good morning. i am so pleased to be here today to celebrate this environmental milestone. as you have heard, we would not be here today without the broad coalition of support and the ongoing collaboration that came together around ensuring we could reduce carbon emissions from our taxi fleet coming here in san francisco. the san francisco department of the environment is proud to have been a partner in insuring san francisco's taxi fleet is the greenest in the nation. first, on the policy front, in 2007, 2008, our department staff work with the taxi commission and cab companies to create the green tax ordinance. this collaboration resulted in a performance standard, requiring taxi companies achieve over all the emission reductions each year without mandating specific models. as long as each company's fleet met the required performance standard at an average level of greenhouse gas reductions every year, t

[music]. thanks to the stern grove association they renovated the concert meadow. it used to be a rolling grafsy area. put in a new stage and stage building. they put in terraces. we get from 8,000 to 12,000 people. and the meadow next to the concert meadow is full of people even though they can't see the music they hear it. i walked into the meadow several times and they don't even care. we do have literally events going on day and night. the concert association has kids days during the week. the performers come out for hundred 200 kids. now, the

this is a policy statement that san francisco believes it is wrong for any employee funded by the city and county of san francisco to target muslim americans, asians, and asian americans for secret intelligence gathering purely based on their race or religious beliefs, and not any reasonable suspicion of criminal or terrorist activity. daniel redmond, at the national center for lesbian rights, stated it best in an op-ed. "let us be frank. when there is not reasonable suspicion, it is unreasonable suspicion. good police work does not require racial profiling and throwing civil-rights aside." this ordinance restates that local privacy laws and the san francisco state constitution must be respected in any surveillance work that sfpd does. it is not ok to rifle through someone's garbage just because your skin is brown, or merely because you are muslim. the real debate, and i stated this a couple of weeks ago, is that, because i believe everyone at city hall agrees with these ious, is whether we should codify these values. i believe we should. i have not heard why we should not codify these

i moved here for many of the reasons that i think we're all here in san francisco. we're a city of compehensive immigration refoimmigrants. we know that san francisco was built on the backs of immigrant labor. we also know that for the past 10 years on so, it has been fairly dark nationwide for our immigrant community. we've had a new record number of rates belief had a tremendous backlog of applications of legal immigrants that are trying to become citizens. there have been countless stories of constitutional and civil rights violated of many of our family members and friends. i used to be an immigrant rights attorney. i can tell you firsthand that i would visit the ins detention center and see individuals who had been beaten by ice agents. this conversation cannot be more timely and more important with the new administration and a new recognition and importance of building an immigrants rights movement. hopefully we will soon get healthcare reform behind us. hopefully the next question that our nation grapples with is how do we tell you the constitutional and civil rights that
