the president of new york university said we need to bring people together in new york city, we need have a conference essentially what you think of how, what were going to do with football. in december and january of 1905-19 or six, they came together in new york and he decided what to do is reform football. there were not going to abolish it but try to change it. the way they did that was by creating a national organization. very typical of the reform movements of the early 1900s. if you want to fix big national problems you create reagan national organization for the ncaa is a good example. they decide to change some of the rules of football. they legalized the forward pass in 1906 which before there was no forward pass. that seems making it easier to kind of see what's going on on the field so the rules can be enforced. they implement that and, of course, that's when ncaa does start enforcing really, really hard-core enforcing amateurism after 1906 and after those reforms that are implemented in that you've what's some people see as the football crisis of 1905-1996. theodore roose
