in city college. my name is cathy buick. i'm a city college alumni who just like one of our students back here who has lived more than their dream because city was free in 1973. i am a resident of san francisco for 40 years and i'm really upset about the way my voice is being usurped at the school that i live and i've been a teacher there for 35 years. i feel it's imperative to remove and i thank you for your effort. it is not only -- it's dangerous to allow a special trustee, super trustee with extraordinary powers which sounds like an action figure -- [laughter] >>> to continue to reside at city college. i believe the violence that happened yesterday, in the 35 years i've been there, i never saw anything like that and i hope i never see anything like it again. and i believe it is a direct result of the lack of communication between the super trustee and the rest of the community. it's also a result of the decisions that have been made that totally dishonor the needs of our students and our community

almost half the city. and this is primarily due to the lack of funds, which is especially acute given the profound affordability crisis we face in san francisco. affordability is not just about housing. it's certainly about health care. without access to these funds for the purposes of paying costs related to the purchase of subsidized coverage through cover california, many low-income and middle income san franciscans will not only go without health insurance they need and deserve, but much of the cost of their care will fall back onto the city's public health system and safety providers san francisco taxpayers. as a result it is critical now more than ever that we eliminate this incentive, this perverse incentive for employers to use accepted benefits hras in the hopes of evading their obligation by requiring that they -- that only irrevocable expenditures will count towards meeting the employer health care spending requirement here in san francisco. the second point that i want to make is that we also h

the city owns over 1,000 individual parcel within the city and county of san francisco. other persons were determined to be questioned having some issues. so, i want to give you a quick synopsis of, a, what we've done in terms of selling surplus properties over the last seven years, and then dive in very quickly to the individual departments with parcels. so, quickly reviewing the sales of properties since 2007, we have accomplished approximately $11 million in sales of general fund assets, $20 million of sales of sfpuc assets, $30 million in sales of assets along octavia boulevard, and currently have three parcel that are surplus along octavia out for bid in fact, those bids are due on april 4. so, that gives you a sense of the transaction volume that we've had in the last seven years. so, very quickly, looking at the individual departments, the fire department had five parcels noted as potentially surplus or under utilized. one of them is [speaker not understood] records updated. one has been repurposed. that is for fire station 30, now incorporated into the public saf

this is my first time speaking at city hall. i just wanted to share with you my story of city college. ~ buyers i've actually been involved with these budget cuts and college protests since high school. and in high school i even took [speaker not understood] we had the health academy which introduced students to careers in the health field through city college. and the instructor -- the instructors for that program were fantastic. it was a very warm, friendly setting. something that i had to deal with in my senior year of high school with my father passing away halfway through my senior year, and that really hurt me in my grades and all around. and i was afraid, i didn't know what i was going to do. when i went to city college i had no plans to transfer, but through the years i spent there since 2011 i found an incredible community of people, an incredible community of teachers, people who i want to keep close and keep as support. this school has meant so much to me and as an art student myself, i want to pursue my improvement i
