civic center plaza. the historic bosart's plan was frame of mind by double row trees and objectified in essence. the playgrounds are retained and doubled down on their leverage so we have these gardens of delight. there are winding benches that protect planting that create a new garden setting for these playgrounds. we'red aing more planting in these gardens of memory inspired by the fact that this was, in fact, the old cemetery in the center of town and these elements and fragments from that cemetery were discovered in the construction of the garage underneath. thinking, though, and looking forward, maybe the ed lee memorial tree moves to this environment and we start to tell storis in this space. all of these elements had to this idea of daily life around the perimeter of this big space that we need to accommodate these huge event. design challenge, how do you break down that sense of scale and space and make it usable. two lawns here provide that. they soften the environment in the hardscape and suppo

july to october, we had -- we're responsible for the civic center, at least partially responsible, for policing the transit hub at the civic center plaza. from july to august, we had -- the mayor gave us an additional overtime allotment to police that area, which is a part of mid market. we then increased the foot beats where you just mentioned, where we added the ten and that brought the total to 43. intermittently we did use overtime funding to staff mid market, to have the consistent foot beats there. the foot beats are running from basically 6:00 a.m. to about midnight daily, seven days a week. 43 sounds like a lot, until you divide it by shifts seven days a week, and what you end up with is four or six officers a day. or shifts. >> supervisor haney: right. >> so it sounds like a lot, but they are not all working at one time. yeah, chair fewer's question, 43 officers. >> supervisor haney: i was going to reiterate that, does sound like a lot, but when you have 6:00 a.m. to midnight, multiple shifts, you're in a situation at any given time it's maybe six to eight, and it's a very large area. it includes west field mall and all of tha

years we started the civic center socking league and what an amazing opportunity it was and is it for kid in the neighborhood who come together every friday in the civic center plazan green grass to run and play. you otonly see soccer and poetry but also see books t. is a really promoting literacy to our kid and giving them to tools to make it work at home. real fortunate to see the [inaudible] grow. >> girls get pressureed with society and i know that is obvious, but we see it every day, magazines, commercials the idea what a woman should look like but i like to be a strong female role for it goals that play sports because a lot of times they don't see someone strong in a female role with something connected with sports and athleticism and i love i can bring that to the table. >> soccer, poetry, community service. we now have field of dreams. we are [inaudible] all over the bay area and excited to be share our mission with other schools across the bay to really build the confidence and character of kids when they go out to play and close their eyes and think, why was [inaudible] we want to make sure-i want to make sure they remember me and remember the other folk
