congressman from missouri who challenged claire mccaskill for her seat in 2012.might have won it until that statement there about rape and female physiology put his senate bid down the river. his notorious wasn't an outlier from his record on women's reproductive health. as a u.s. congressman, he spent time talking about and legislating about rape. in 2011, he co-sponsored the, quote, no taxpayer funding for abortions act which tried to redefine rape to be something called, quote, forcible rape, a fairly invented term of dubious legal significance which served to make him and his fellow 226 co-sponsors seem as antiabortion as possible. one co-sponsor who tried to define sexual assault for everyone else was another republican congressman from colorado named corey gardner. mr. gardner had a pretty low profile then. now he's the gop candidate running for senate against incumbent democrat mark udall. before he came to washington, he was a state lawmaker in 2007. he co-sponsored a near total ban on abortion with absolutely no exceptions in the case of rape or incest.

. >>> missouri democratic senator claire mccaskill is hosting another hearing this afternoon looking into campus sexual assaults. syndicated columnist george will recently wrote a column that generated a lot of discussion. here's a clip of a brief conversation we recently had with mr. will. >> george will, college has become the victims of progressivism. >> yes. >> and i think the day we're reporting this, "the st. louis post dispatch" announced they've dropped your column. >> yes, they have. they now how to appreciate the rebel. but -- but this is my job is when dubious statistics become the basis of dubious and dangerous abandonment of due process, to step in and say, take a deep breath, everybody. what's happened is, the administration has said that 1 in 5 women in college experience a sexual assault. and that 12% of sexual assaults are actually reported. which if you take their own -- if you take that, only 12% of sexual assaults are reported, take the reporting, extrapolate from that, you don't come to anything like 1 in 5. i mean, the administration's own statistics fall apart.
