. >> claire mccaskill told a kansas city radio station today amendments that eliminate the departmentf environmental protection are not acceptable to those that support the legislation. will amendments to the bill cost support from democrats? >> senator mccaskill says that is the case. that is what you have to watch today. the reality is a lot of amendments are not likely to pass. what you most likely have is a measure that paves the way for the keystone pipeline and for the president to be bypassed. on a lot of amendments, the votes are sideshows. they are opportunities for republicans and democrats to play to the base. there are democratic amendments that will be controversial. one to restrict this will only be used in the united states. watch for both sides to get political votes. we are probably still talking about the core issue of whether the pipeline should with full without the president signed on. >> what do they want in exchange for approving the pipeline? >> at is the million-dollar question. none of the types of amendments discussed are probably going to move the president
