ford to read and understand blueprints, he was always a person who understood things in three dimension, found it easier to understand things that way. he built it in a shed that he and claire ford were renting, and he tinkered on it when he wasn't at work. one of the advantages of being in the position he had, it gave him some flexibility in his schedule and access to tool and machinery at the edison illuminating works. it was june when he took the first ride, and he had a friend riding ahead on a bicycle to warn people that the quadricycle was coming. that was it. he had done it. it's not too sophisticated, a two-sillen der. it's built like a bicycle. and there's a leather belt that can be shifted between 2000 different pullies, effectively given you two speed. top speed on the quadricycle is 15, maybe 20 miles per hour if you're going downhill on smooth pavement. you don't want to go faster than that because there's no brake. that wasn't a problem then because the streets were cobblestone, and they could drag their feet and slow it down. he did actually sell the vehicle not terribly long after he built it, and he used the money to build a second car like any good entrepr
