i'm liz claman, it is the last hour of trading, and if you're looking for bright spots in the market, what do we have? airlines moving higher because it looks like we finally have a deal. the justice department removing the last major barrier to the proposed merger between american airlines and us airways. so what was this huge stumbling block could now become a steppingstone. today the government announcing that settlement in its lawsuit to block the merger, so what does it get in return? well, the merged airline says it will promise to reduce the number of flights it operates out of key airports like washington's reagan national and new york's laguardia. shares of american airlines, we do see it higher, it's amr as you see, and we have it up about $2.43, that's a 25% gain. lcc for low cost carrier up about a half a percent. joined live by bob crandall, a guy who knows the airline industry inside and out. he's the former president and chairman of american airlines. we'll get his take on today's announcement. talk about the airlines and if he thinks they're a good bet. it's a fox busi

. ♪ ♪ liz: happy monday, everyone, i'm liz claman, it is the last hour of trading. we haven't seen since way back, september of 2000. here it goes, 4,001.69. back then that was when alan greenspan was head of the federal reserve, the average price of a movie ticket -- depressing, $5.40. and doesn't really matter by janet jackson was the number one song on the billboard charts. that's a little trip down memory lane. what definitely matters is what's leading the nasdaq to a 13-year high. we've got sears holding, not a name you'd likely expect because they have struggled over the past ten years, but it is seeing a jump of 6.5 percent to $65.36. invidia, google, those are the tech names or at least the biotech that's kind of the outlier there. we're also watching the price of light sweet crude after a major agreement was reached with iran over its nuclear ambitions. all kinds of issues with relaxing perhaps some sanctions here and there. it's still up for debate, till going to be molded, but right now the price of light sweet crude falling just 70 cents and, in fact, we

liz: good afternoon, everybody, i am liz claman.r being off most of the day the dow jones industrial average turned negative just after the federal reserve minutes from the most recent meeting were released. you can check out this chart, pretty steep drop just after 2:00 p.m. eastern trying to climb back but barely. a similar story with the s&p 500. flip it over to that, up for most of the day until 2:00 p.m. eastern when the fed and its to make a mac minutes were released. and at that meeting while they voted 9-1 to keep the bond purchases bi spigot open full blast, there was question questo what they were really talking about. look at why the market reacted the way it did. up 49 points. peter barnes has been going over the fed minutes with a fine tooth comb. lauren simonetti with the trader reaction.

. ♪ ♪ liz: good afternoon, everybody, i'm liz claman. it is the last hour of trading. is it yellen?. is it yellen or the better than expected jobless claims report? one or both seem to be lifting the major indices higher and higher, even a couple of lackluster earnings reports from some major retailers might have raised a few questions about the holiday shopping season but cannot derail the rally today. we are above 16,000 for the dow jones industrials once again. what happened? we're talking about target's third quarter profits, they did drop 47% largely due to a pullback in consumer spending and the cost of expanding into canada. right now we see shares of target, and they are, indeed, moving lower, but the percent decline is not enough to shake this market. the retail giant also lowering its full-year earnings forecast. so did walmart, kohl's and dollar tree. what's at heart here? we are told stagnant wages, the increase in the payroll tax and the partial government shutdown to blame. but the rally today, it could be going nuclear due to janet yellen. the fed chair nominee will a

. ♪ ♪ liz: good afternoon, everybody, i'm liz claman. it is the last hour of trading.y because these markets are frying up one hot, juicy steak on this friday. stocks rallying across the boards right now, and it would seem they're getting a boost from that much better than expected jobs number that came out this morning. to see a gain of 108 points, just slightly off the highs of the session for the dow, it is a welcome move for the bulls. we're going to dig into those jobs numbers in just a moment when we're joined live by labor secretary thomas perez. we are going to ask what needs to be done now to get job growth even higher. even higher. by the way, the good news aaso is that for the previous two months the jobs were upwardly revised. that, too, is very good news. despite today's broad rally, one stock that is not rallying is twitter. just one day after it took off amid a ton of hype and fanfare -- and it did gain 70% yesterday -- it's been down pretty much all day, and as you look at this intraday chart, it's kind of gotten worse throughout the day. in fact, at th

. ♪ ♪ liz: good afternoon, everybody, i'm liz claman, it is the last hour of trading, and if you're lookinge have? airlines moving higher because it looks like we finally have a deal. the justice department removing the last major barrier to the proposed merger between american airlines and us airways. so what was this huge stumbling block could now become a steppingstone. today the government announcing that settlement in its lawsuit to block the merger, so what does it get in return? well, the merged airline says it will promise to reduce the number of flights it operates out of key airports like washington's reagan national and new york's laguardia. shares of american airlines, we do see it higher, it's amr as you see, and we have it up about $2.43, that's a 25% gain. lcc for low cost carrier up about a half a percent.
