let's start "the claman countdown." liz: breaking news. when you see the dow down 66 points, you have to know how much uglier it was. we had been down 589 points, but at this hour, investors are slowly dipping their toes back into the water and pretty much the best indication of that is to show you where the selling is, where the buying is and what triggered it all. first, i want to look at an intraday of the s&p. while now down just slightly, about 1.5 points, just a second ago it had launched a bid to vault into the green and was successful on that. this morning, not a single stock of the s&p had hit a new 52-week high. things were terribly ugly. the sector's still getting smacked with the ugly stick and suffering at the moment. let's get to interest rate sensitive banks. they are reaching for the tylenol. jpmorgan, bank of america, citigroup down anywhere from 2% to 3%. when you broaden that out to the subsector etf, take a look at the damage. earlier it was down 3.5%. it has indeed come back, but still down about 2% for the kbe. let's

liz claman, dow is off 735 points. we are buckling up. the last hour will be pretty wild. liz: it already is. we are at the top of the hour. i don't know if you heard, we are going entirely commercial-free because we are looking at panic buying of bonds and frantic selling of stocks as we head into the final hour of trade. with the dow losing 730 points right now, we have just seen the odds of a more aggressive 50 basis point cut move. they were higher, this is interesting, they were at about 24%, 25%. they are now at 21.2%. it literally just changed. a quarter of a point cut is already in play. that's already fully expected. but the federal reserve meets next month and as we say, it is now about a 21.2% chance we will see a more aggressive half point cut. if the fed does cut like that, it has a lot to do with a rare market phenomenon we saw today for the first time in 12 years. it's not the death cross. certainly not the golden cross. it's about the twos and tens. this is called a yield curve inversion. it happens when the ten-year treasury yield drops below the two-year

the decision has been made to blow out all commercial breaks in this final hour of trade on "the claman countdown" in order that we get you the market movements every second leading up to the closing bell which is now 58 minutes away. we need to make sure you see whether the markets gap down even further or if buyers start to venture in and take a few bites off the ground here. it has happened in the past. right now, so far, we are not seeing that. the nasdaq down 316 points. it's still pretty much a tsunami of selling. investors are scurrying to what we are calling fallout shelters as the currency bombs explode all across our market, slamming into assets of nearly every asset class. again, this is a fluid situation. it's a little complicated. we do want to explain the situation. overnight, china's central bank allowed its currency to breach a sacrosanct level of seven yuan to the u.s. dollar. it is the first time in 11 years that the yuan has fallen below seven. the yuan ended the session at 16.9225. what does that mean? with such a low currency it's a back doorway for the chinese to h
