really, i should say that it is actually decades-long because ethics issues have plagued clarence thomasd the national spotlight. let's go down memory lane and review some of them. to be clear, this is what we know and this time. you never know what else has yet to be uncovered in the weeks and months ahead. 1991 thomas's conform to the supreme court after senate hearings featuring graphic allegations of sexual harassment from anita hill. 1996, harlan crow meets thomas for the first time in washington and invites him to fly on a private jet to dallas. thomas fails to disclose after harlan crow reportedly bonded. 2008, thomas began sending his grand nephew to a private boarding school in georgia. records show that he paid his $6,200 a month tuition and he paid the tuition for the grandnephews entire year long stay at that school. thomas never reports this. 2009, harlan crow reportedly gives $500,000 to a political nonprofit started by ginni thomas. the money is initially given anonymously by a political links up to crow in 2011. 2012, conservative activists, leonard leo and kylian conaway

it's a little strange and then you've got justice clarence thomas whose wife was involved, somewhat involved, what you think of that? some would say that justice thomas at a minimum should recuse himself. there were multiple cases, a handful of cases after the november, 2020 election involving donald trump's claim of fraud and involving how the ballots should be counted because of covid and justice thomas did not recuse himself and didn't make it known that his wife was involved in efforts to persuade vice president pence to not certify the election for joe biden. the supreme court has a new code of ethics but there is no enforcement mechanism so it's up to the justices. there is no police on the beat to say if you don't do it you're in trouble and there's no accountability. that's probably unlikely in the suggestion that just because a president appointed you -- that would be a problem for the supreme court anytime a president appoints someone and they are still president because all kinds of cases involving the federal government come up before the court. i don't think that's a strong argu

your organization has filed criminal and civil complaints against clarence thomas, i want you, if you expand on the argument that you're making. but on this issue of the colorado, voting if it makes its way to the supreme court, should somebody like justice thomas recuse himself from hearing based on comments on him and his wife have been making regarding the 2020 election? >>> so, first, the complaints that were brought last year against justice thomas were based on his failure to report certain gifts that he received over a period of time from an individual who befriended him after he became justice on the supreme court. and had business before the court. so we will see how those complaints proceed. i think with respect to our case, there is a pretty significant bar for when a justice should recuse. i think it's a question for justice thomas. unlike in some of the other cases that were at issue, we push for justice thomas's recusal, his spouse is not a witness, or was not a witness in our case. certainly you can argue she was a witness to some of the -- that related to january 6th.
