we bring in our legal analyst steven clark. take it away, were you surprised at how this jury, the jurors came to their -- this decision today? >> i was, raj and this is why. the government's obstruction case was based on bare yip bonds committing perjury. to get to obstruction you would have thought the jury would have found him guilty of perjury but they didn't do that. they took the next step and convicted him of obstruction of justice which means they looked at his entire grand jury tell, felt he was not forth coming and he impeded the investigation. the defense will hotly contest this verdict, say it's internally inconsistent and the legal fight for barry bonds is not over. >> who won here as it stands now before we get to appeal, about of we get to a retrial if we do. does the prosecution walk away thinking they have a victory here? >> both sides take away somewhat of a victory. certainly they spent a fortune prosecuting the case, had he taken a plea bargain it would have been in the same direction as we are right now. so

host: dave clark, are the new rules going to protect a guy like tommy?so he's talking about predatory lending and that's been a big issue here during the past years in the financial crisis where lenders and mortgage brokers, where they pushing loans on borrowers that they knew they couldn't afford because these loans generated more fees? someone has a was a riskier borrower they had to pay more fees. so in this settlement it doesn't really take on predatory lending. but there are other -- i mentioned earlier, the new wall street or financial overhaul law sort of goes by the name d.o.d.-frank as well. there are aspects of that that try to take on the issue of predatory lending. for instance, this past week the federal reserve put out a new proposal required by the law on the type of standards that a lender has to follow when giving out a loan. and it sounds almost like common sense but what it says is you have to make sure that the person you lend to has the ability to repay the loob. and so you think -- loan. you think that would be standard procedure bu

i'm dave clark. >>> good morning. i'm pam cook. time now 6:30.e're following a very dramatic overnight rescue in marin county. it's the people involved in the rescue that's made this such an incredible story. ktvu's tara moriarty joins us now from san quentin with the details. tara. >> reporter: well, it's the people behind this rescue that are pretty surprising. they are actual san quentin inmates. and they're part of a fire department here on the grounds. they along with an alert guard who stands watch in one of the towers behind me here actually were able to save a couple stranded in the water just off of the coast here. around 1:15 this morning the guard heard faint cries of two people calling for help. he spotted them in the water and that's when the inmates swung into action. they and a staff member jumped into the water to rescue the man who was not wearing a life jacket. crews from the san raphael fire department arrived and then used a rope rescue to save the woman. >> they began having engine trouble. as one of the individuals tried to
