eyewitness news reporter dray clark is live in sandy hook. dray? >> reporter: good morning, michelle. where is that boat and what happened to the people on board. those are the two leading questions this morning. the full scale search to find the missing boat will resume later on this morning. it was called off last night because of darkness. the marine unit as well as the coast guard used side sonar in the sandy hook channel in the area where the boat was seen sinking around 4:30 yesterday afternoon. during a search of the channel, debris was found. that included two coolers as you saw a moment ago and a life preserver. the dive team searched where the boat was last seen. the 40-foot fishing vessel was seen taking on water then disappeared in the channel. the sandy hook channel is 35 feet deep and 800 feet wide. despite using boats and helicopters and side sonar, authorities have found nothing substantial. the vessel usually docks in new jersey but as we said a moment ago, there was no distress call coming from that boat yesterday and no one has b

dray clark is live in newark with what is ahead, dray? >> reporter: good morning, ken. later on today, anthony johnson fox will meet with governor christie along with smear menendez and booker and the topic of discussion will be the gateway project. it is that multibillion dollar plan that calls for building a new hudson river tunnel, a project that many believe is desperately needed now. there was a plan in the works but in 2010 governor christie pulled state funding because of possible cost overruns. there are two rail tunnels and they are more than a century old and in dire need of repair. a new jersey transit train with 200 passengers got stuck inside the tunnel causing significant delays for morning commuters then last month a series of electrical problems inside the tunnel caused days of delays and diversions. superstorm sandy is getting much of the blame for causing a lot of the damage to the tunnels in recent years. amtrak operates the rails and tunnels and equipment that is used by new jersey transit. last week an amtrak official told new jersey lawmakers that

let's get to dray clark live at the scene in mariners harbor. dray? >> reporter: yeah, good afternoon. 38-year-old garland tyree we just learned is dead. whether or not he died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound or during that heavy exchange of gunfire around 11:45 this morning, that much remains unclear. there is a significant police presence near that home where the event happened here. we noticed a number of officers standing down and also members of the emergency services unit, the heavily armed unit walking around without their are formed gear on, another indication that the situation has reached a conclusion. this began earlier this morning when a member of the u.s. marshal's service came here to arrest garland sigh refor a federal probation violation. they noticed smoke from inside the home. they called in the fdny. as firefighters approached, garland tyree hit a lieutenant with the fdny twice. he is in stable condition. again, this situation is now reaching an end with the 38- year-old suspect garland tyree record as dead. we know t
