san francisco is a world-class city for a lot of things. restaurants, views, architecture. you'd be hard-pressed to say we are a world class city for families and we're aware of the statistics. newark * talks about us stay. the areas an article in physical education. researchers at ucsf found 20% of elementary schools were meeting the standard requirement of 20 minutes per day. guess who is out there helping that? it is volunteer coaches -- is volunteer coaches like us. the last line of defense in this area. one of the strongest partners we have is is if park and rec. they have been vilified tonight strangely in some nefarious plot they have with the fischers but they are as strong part and probably the crown jewel in san francisco's attempts to make this city family friendly. that being said, the hardest thing we have and the biggest problem we have is getting the -- for our kids. give us two, three fields. let's make this city it world- class city not only for restaurants but for families as well. >> my name is richard cross. i lived in saccharin -- san francisco in distr

city that it is. we are announcing today 6 fire academy classes over the next six years. like the police the bernie, our fire department is also facing challenges. from retirees and a challenge -- we're looking at challenges in a fiscally responsible way. the current personnel is lower than it has been in the past decade. the additional firefighters were -- will help the department use less overtime. we have one h3 level 1 emt class in the fiscal year 2012-2013, slated to begin in july of this year. this will result in a net increase of 20emt's to the fire department. in the coming years, whether in the middle of the net as a first responder to a fire when the majority of our city is sleeping or in the broad daylight, with the international spotlight on america's cup, the san francisco fire department will guard, protect, and support our city, inspire our young people and continue to be a model in the tradition of excellence. our san francisco police department and the fire department are responsible for providing public safety services to those who work, live, and visit

transit center and the transit center district plan are critical to san francisco's future as a world-class city, and they build on san francisco's economic strategy and will be helpful to the entire region. through our review of existing academic and professional literature of around the world, the transit center and the development of a new, walkable, contact -- compact, transit- oriented neighborhood around downtown san francisco will provide substantial economic benefits. very importantly, as indicated, it will enhance property values surrounding the transit center by providing enhanced transit access, parks and open space, and this new walkable neighborhood featuring a variety of amenities that you are very familiar with. the key features of the transit center being the sustainable state of the art transit center itself, the large scale park on top of the transit center, and the surrounding new parks in the neighborhood and the new retail that will be both within the trend isn't center and in the neighborhood -- a transit center and in the neighborhood. we want to highlight some key points.
