claudia cowen is with us with the latest. what does it look like now?porter: well, you know, not a whole lot has changed no. small army of inspectors has fanned out across the napa valley to assess the damage for property owners and get a cost estimate to submit for possible federal aid. they've already red tagged dozens of homes and buildings like this one in the historic downtown district, saying they're unsafe and that a strong enough aftershock could knock them all the way down. some people lost everything after a fire possibly sparked by broken gas line raced through homes and a trailer park, crews are working to fix critical infrastructure and restore power to 50 more customers. this was the scene as many of the world famous wineries. thousands of shattered bottles, toppled barrels and fermentation tanks. to the valley's $13 billion industry are tallied, but what a hit for the growers coping with california's lingering drought. one winemaker says they've lost half their inventory. the outages have prompted a senior federal nuclear expert to call f

let's head out to claudia cowen in napa for the very latest, and claudia, the pictures you got thereorth more than a thousand words. >> reporter: oh, it really is, shannon. having looked throuived through earthquake this morning, i can tell you it is very, very frightening. we're getting more details about the critical injuries reported so far. two women and a child that were injured by a falling chimney and having to be airlifted to a hospital. 87 others have gone to the hospital seeking treatment for more minor injuries, mostly cuts and bruises, but what a mess. at places like this market in napa, we're about six miles away from the epicenter if american canyon, $75,000 in lost merchandise and damage, and workers have to get it all up fast or else all the sauces and jams and wines, all of it will seep in and then they'll have to replace the whole floor. similar scenes of damage and devastation all over napa valley, bricks and windows shattered in historic buildings in the downtown district. world famous wineries reporting extensive damage as well just at the start of the white wine

claudia cowen is live now in napa with the latest. hi, claudia. >> reporter: hi, eric. just a scene of total devastation here at the ranch market near downtown napa. you can see employees have been added for the better part of two-and-a-half hours, cleaning up the mess. so many jars and packages just falling into the aisles here. and this is just one store. this scene being repeated all around napa county, as well as sonoma county. we can tell you some updated numbers in terms of power outages. about 68,000 residents without power in napa, 15,000 in sonoma county. we're hearing reports of roads that buckled, the chp checking on them. this is the biggest earthquake in about a quarter century, since the 6.9 quake in 1989, the loma prieta earthquake. a big issue now is fires erupting because of broken gas mains, that kind of thing. and we understand there was a significant fire at a nearby mobile home park. we understand three or four mobile homes have been destroyed. six to eight have suffered significant damage. a big problem, eric, is that a number of water main breaks

. >> claudia cowen, live for us there.of a walmart that was completely destroyed in parts of napa. rick is standing by, you were explaining earlier, rick, as we see some of this is roads that have buckled, what i was reading is it's a slip, fought a thrust. explain the difference. >> one of the reports i'm seeing say there are different kinds of slips. but one of the reports i'm seeing is that this was a strike slip which basically just means they're running against each other and there is a slide. so if you are standing in one spot and you're right there, it would move to your right. everything on the land would move off to your right from where you were. >> how bizarre. and as you saw some of the images you were looking at online, too, the earth opened up with ten-foot drops now, bridges, cars are stuck in vallejo. >> one of the reasons it's important to not go out, unless your place has gas and you need to get out of your home. but you've got to get people time to get out there and inspect all the roads to make sure the
