claudine. >> reporter: here is the deal.you call 911 you probably won't notice any change in service. police are still responding to calls. but police officers on the street tell me this morning there is definitely an ongoing problem right now with how dispatch is exhuming with officers on the street. the problems are what is in those cars or more specifically the laptops in the cars. dispatch gets a 911 call and transmyths all the information -- and transmits all the information. that system went down yesterday and it's still down this morning. what that means is that instead of getting the information in those computers, the officers have to get it over the radio. it takes a little longer. one veteran officer said we have done our job that way before. it will not effect our ability to come out on a call and help the people of san francisco. it is an ongoing problem that just changes how things happen internally from dispatch. what we don't know this morning is what is causing this problem. apparently it started yesterday.
