claudine wong has been talking with police and family members, what do you know now? >> well the brother of the victim said they owned this taco truck for almost 30 years and he is always apparently in charge. when two armed men tried to rob him, that is when this gun battle started. police tell us both the victim and one suspect were hit and at last were both in stable condition. this is video of the victim taken from scene. he was suffering from gunshot wounds to the arms back and neck but he was able to call 911 after the suspects disappeared from the scene. >> there are a couple of people, two people at local hospitals that are in stable condition with gunshot wounds. >> reporter: the suspect was actually taken to the hospital by somebody else. he is being treated but is under arrest in connection with his robbery. in the meantime the victim has his family with him. this is video from his brother you can see him holding a bullet-proof vest. his brother always carried it with him but for some reason was not wearing it when all this went down. claudine wong ktvu cha

good afternoon, claudine. >> reporter: good afternoon tori. things look good now but it was a rough morning. chp said they responded to 125 incidents. many were minor but one in the peninsula was fatal. it can happen in just an instant. in san mateo, the chp says two brothers were headed to san carlos when they crashed along highway 101. for some unknown reason, he lost control, hydroplaning and struck the median. >> reporter: the driver died. just after 5:00 this car landed on its roof along highway 101 in san francisco. a half-hour later in oakland, this car spun out of control on interstate 880. both drivers were okay. but traffic was backed up for miles. and in this solo crash on the fruitvale offramp, he's not sure what happened. >> i was coming off the offramp. it was completely dark. it was raining. i could -- raining. i could barely see. i hit -- i don't even know what i hit blnklth in some cases, the hazard was easy for drivers to see. it looked a little like a lake until caltrans cleared a drain. but the hazard may not have been seen

claudine wong has exclusive video from the scene. good morning claudine. >> reporter: police say this all happened at 1:30 right across the street. police say the worker inside was cleaning up when he was approached by two men which looked like an attempted robbery. before it was all over, there was gunfire and two people were hit. that is the employee of the taco trucking put into the ambulance, he suffered from gunshot wounds and when they tried to rob him he decided to fight back. he was hit and the suspects took off. witnesses saw the vehicles take off. >> member have been called out and they are trying to interview potential suspects. >> sometime after the shooting, the man with gunshot wounds walked into a local hospital and he is believed to be one of the suspects and is now in custody. both were at stable condition at last word. this investigation continues. again we come back out here live, police tell us this all happened right in front of this taco truck that apparently has been in business for a long time in this area. ag

in pacifica, there is a high surf advisory, claudine wong? >> reporter: you can see signs are up warning people about the dangers of these waves and we are walking up on the pier and we have seen people coming back out here, take a look at these waves. if you take a look they have been booming all morning long and they have been crashing into some of the walkway areas. it's going to be like this all morning long and throughout the day, steve paulsen said we have swells between 16 and 30 feet every 15 seconds and we have 18 feet at local beaches. we have talked to some folks who were so caught up by the site of these waves and they actually came to check it out. >> it is so big. every morning i brush by here and today it is pretty big. >> back live you can see some of the big ones breaking over the end of this pier and any time we have big waves, people always talk about mavericks. what does it mean for mavericks. we know they are watching these swells but they go down and remember they need that 24 hour window. . claudine wong ktvu channel 2

as claudine wong reports, police resources are stretched thin. >> reporter: they were rushed to the scene as investigators tried to figure out who shot a man on his bike as he road down market street. >> went they went outside we realized somebody got shot. >> reporter: crime scene technicians worked to find out information as the market owner got back to business. a man was found shot in his car and was conscience when he was taken to the hospital. >> we got a call that there was a victim suffering a gunshot wound somewhere in the area so my officers located him and sent him to the hospital. we don't have a lot of information but we are still investigating the case. >> reporter: officers were trying to investigate a shooting at the corner of 44th and international where a group of people fired on a passing car. everybody fled that scene and that was at 9:15 p.m. p.m. p.m. just a few hours -- 9:15 p.m., that was just a few hours after just days after eight people were injured. this violence does not come with easy solutions. >> everybody has to be involved. >> reporter: police say at this

as ktvu's claudine wong reports, the violent confrontation happened early this morning at fruitvale avenue and foothill boulevard. and she has video you will only see on ktvu. >> reporter: fighting back came at a price for the 32-year-old oakland man. police say the victim, seen here being taken from the scene, was simply closing up the truck at about 1:30 this morning. >> the owner of the taco truck was out doing some routine maintenance and cleaning up when he was approached by two individuals. one of the individuals pointed a gun and demanded money. >> reporter: police say what the would-be robbers likely didn't realize was that the victim was armed, too, and that attempted robbery quickly turned into a gun battle. >> about 1:00, 1:30 in mott everyoning -- in the morning, i heard about five, six real loud gunshots. >> reporter: when the bullets stop, the suspects fled and the victim called 911. police say he was hit three times, in the neck, arm and in the back. >> i talked to the mom. she's worried. >> reporter: police say the shooter was later dropped off at the hospital and is also s

claudine wong is live. a lot of people looking at the surf? >> reporter: it's quite something to see. you can see the ocean still rocking and rolling. people do tend to get a little too close. they just shut down the pier about 30 minutes ago because people were walking all the way to the end and the water was crashing over that pier. it will do that and also crash over the sea wall. if you take a look down, the sidewalk, can you see people standing very close. they tend to just run away once the waves come. locals will tell you, don't ever turn your back on the ocean. we knew they were coming. we had been watching the big waves, waiting for the big one and, still, 15 feet away from the sea wall, it caught us, leaving our photographer with wet shoes. >> oh, boy. >> reporter: we were not alone. we saw people shaking off and dodging the big waves, all among long. signs were up warning people that, while spectacular, the big waves are dangerous. the high surf advisory went into effect at 4:00 this morning and even before the sun came up, people w

ktvu channel 2 reporter claudine wong joins us from oakland with what she has learned. >> reporter: i've been talking to oakland police this morning and a lot of detectives still here at the oakland police department working this morning. trying to get to the bottom of all of these cases. about 24 hours it started after 3:00 yesterday morning with a person suffering minor injuries after a shooting on 25th avenue and east tenth. the victim was extremely lucky but that was just the beginning. just before 10:00 there was another shooting. this one on 89th and d-street. in that case it was a drive by shooting and an adult man was killed after a car with three males and one female drove by and opened fire. we are also told another victim was heard we are not sure of his condition. around 6:15 last night more shots. this time on the 1200 block of 72nd avenue. an adult man was shot by two adults driving by. he survived that shooting. police told ktvu he was shot in the stomach. and then another killing just before 8:45 last night. this one on the 800 block of 26th street. the victim shot multip
