claudine wong joins us now with the latest on what he said. orning, claudine. >> reporter: good morning, dave. yes, i spoke to 52-year-old hayashi from jail here in martinez -- in martinez. i asked him several questions about these dogs at his concord home. he owned five pit bulls. three of them were kept in the garage, where this 2-year-old boy, his step grandson jacob, walked into yesterday and that's where the mauling, the fatal dog mauling happened. the question, of course, many people are asking, was could he have known? was there a history with these dogs? now, hayashi says the kids, the grandkids, there were a couple of them there, actually played with the dogs. here's what he had to say when i asked him about safety. >> i always didn't want them to -- didn't want them to get close to the dog without supervision. i was there all of the time. >> reporter: he mentions the one dog that these kids didn't go near, one dog that jacob, the 2-year-old, didn't even even know. that dog was a dog that showed aggression. that dog killed the family c

claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> part of san jose will be sprayed for mosquitoes as part of an ongoing effort to prevent the spread of west nile virus to humans. the area to be fogged is near highway 17, rincon and bud avenues. santa clara county vector control say mosquitoes found in the area tested positive for the west nile virus. the fogging will start at 11:00 tonight and last for several hours. >>> dozens of richmond residents just got their water back on after a water main break. it happened at the intersection of francisco way and hazel avenue. the water was turned off for 30 minutes but by then, the water leaked out, 4200 gallons. water turned -- water was turned off as crews fixed the pipe. one customer experienced a difficult time with this. >> i have a 1-year-old girl, a brother and sister-in-law visiting from north carolina. a lot of business needs to be done and we can't do it. >> crews are still working and it's not clear when the repairs will be finished. >>> this was the scene here near buchanan street. crews were doing planned service work when they broke a va

claudine wong has more on this developing story. >> reporter: we just walked out of the oakland police department where we took a look at surveillance tape of two suspects wanted in connection with a deadly robbery over the weekend. the father of three from virginia was in town for a job interview. he had gone down the street for a teeth cleaning and was on his way out to his car at 11:30 on sunday night when he was robbed, shot and killed. police have just shown us this surveillance tape that they say will be critical to solving the case. >> this is five minutes before the murder in the same block where the murder occurred. walking away with his hands in his pocket. i'm going to slow it down here. speaking to one of the victims, there and present at the homicide scene, she described the suspect that had a gun as a male suspect, wearing a hooded shirt. >> without this video, i don't think we would have anything, besides what the victim pro sided -- provided. the video is tremendous. i solved two other cases using this video. it's like a family member that sees you walking away, they wi

ktvu's claudine wong has been getting updates on the investigation all morning long and is back again with the very latest. good morning, claudine. >> reporter: yes. all but one of the seven cars has been taken away. you can see the volkswagen behind me. that's the last one. it will also be taken away in a short bit. then the cleanup and the investigation does continue. this fire was spotted just after 12:30 this morning by a parking lot attendant here at sfo's long-term parking lot. he called firefighters and the fire was out pretty quickly but the damage was done. six cars suffered significant damage. a 7th car was melted by the heat. police are still trying to trash down the owners of those vehicles. >> we are seeing if we can get ahold of someone. some of these people are on a trip some place. some are home. it will be a big disappointment for people when come back here to find out their car is destroyed. >> reporter: what happens now? the cars are being towed to a different location. a toyota siena minivan is the focus of this investigation. still trying to track down more detail

ktvu's claudine wong has been taking a close look at those surveillance images. e, what do they reveal? >> reporter: well, they tell us a lot about what happened before and after that fire. we should tell you that berkeley police just arrived on scene in the last few minutes inside the store now, as they continue to investigate this latest arson fire, which they say is number nine in a strong of arson fires. they want to take a look at what that surveillance camera captured on tape in terms of this fire this this morning -- in terms of this fire this morning. the fire was set on the trash can, you can see it and we did get an exclusive look at it. you might be surprised at what you might see. we took a look the at video which shows four major events minutes leading up to and following the fire. about five minutes before we spotted flames on the camera from this fire, you can see a man walk up to the store window, look in and walk to the corner of the screen. that's where the trash can is located. an then minutes later, two -- and then minutes later, two other peop

in berkeley, claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> richmond police are investigating two suspicious car fires, both of them happened early this morning. the first fire was at san joaquin street and modak avenue. the second one happened at jint road and richmond parkway around 3:00. police say both cars were stolen, although the owners didn't realize it and had not reported them stolen yet. investigators say there's been a total of 24 suspicious car fires in western contra costa county. but they say these two are not likely connected to the others. >>> for the second day in a row, ac transit bus service has been disrupted. the reason, a labor dispute that's prompted some drivers to call in sick. during the past hour, the two sides met in court. jade hernandez joins us now with a look at more and to let us know what's happening. >> reporter: the fight is over a a newly-imposed ac transit contract that became effective on sunday. union operators are not so happy about it. so on monday, 20% of them called in sick. the same goes for today. unfortunately, it's the riders who get caught in

claudine wong is at city hall with the very latest on all of this. claudine?rter: well, certainly, this morning there is concern for the small growers, the people who then supply these medical marijuana dispensaries up until now. there are literally hundreds of them who have the small growing operations. this would change things. this 5-2 vote literally changed how things are being run. we're talking about very large scale industrial growing operation. this is history in the making and people are pash nat about it. right now -- passionate about it. last year, the dispensaries sold $20 million in marijuana. oakland already has a pot tax. we're talking about money now and this new ordinance would mean money for the city. this takes the business of pot growing up a bunch of notches. we are only talking about four permits but those would go to industrial-sized operations. each requiring $2311,000 -- $211,000 a year in permit fees, 8% sales tax and $2 million in liability insurance. >> as the industry continues to emerge and grow, we know other cities are looking a

claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news. >> 5:02. ac transit is warning east bay bus riders an escalating labor dispute could lead to major service disruptions today. jade hernandez joining us live with the details of what may happen. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. we are live this morning in front of the yard where ac transit buses are dispatched. in fact, this is the place the number of drivers reporting to work was less than usual yesterday. ac transit called it a sickout. the union is not just yet, but what did happen is quite a few drivers, enough to effect service, called in sick a day after a newly imposed contract became effective. so much so the service across the dumbarton bridge was down 50%. yesterday they had 8 buses. the union is expected today to head to court to get an injunction which lifts the current schedule. it instituted new rules in several areas. ac transit, on the other hand, says if the union has their way they can expect additional layoffs and service cuts. the new contract, ac transit says, helps

ktvu's claudine wong has been talking to police this morning. she joins us now with the latest information. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, pam. yes, we have seen a lot of the police patrolling the area in and around the cal campus where these string of fires have happened. the most recent fires, three of them happened just overnight and at this point the latest crime alert from the police department says they have no suspects. i did talk to a police officer this morning at the scene of the most recent fire that just happened this morning, that fire was started in front of sam's market. about 3:50 this morning. it was out quickly with no damage to the nearby buildings. a stunt called 911 after spotting the flames. >> i saw a rubbish bin just begin t burn. the flames erupting over the sides of the bin. the plastic had not begun to melt at all when i realized it was close to sam's market. >> reporter: now about three hours before he called 911 there was another suspicious fire at bancroft. that fire caused damage to trash cans and a scoot
