ktvu's claudine wong now has some more important new information. she is in san jose. claudine. reporter: well, good morning, pam. yes, the santa clara county jail has now confirmed for us that san jose police officer patrick d'arrigo is free at this hour. he did post bail from here at the main jail in san jose at 1:42 this morning and was released. d'arrigo was booked yesterday on three charges involving two teenaged boys in an investigation that apparently had been under way for a couple of years. gilroy police heading up that investigation, but because d'arrigo is an officer with san jose, the san jose police department internal affairs division was also involved. now, according to the mercury news, the charges involve a 15- year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy and came after reports of alcohol and minors at the officer's gilroy home. he was arrested yesterday afternoon, but this is not the first time he's been in trouble. >> patrick d'arrigo was a patrol officer from 1994, he was terminated at one point for a botched dui investigation that was in the media. he was reinstated a

ktvu claudine wong is in cupertino to talk about a gas leak that lead to a big explosion. claudine. >> reporter: good morning, dave. we have been showing you this garage door all morning long. it shows you the force of the education ex-- the force of the explosion. take a looks at the town home. you can see the explosion that went up going through the roof and leaving holes in the roof of the town home. it's also charred by the fire that came afterwards. they did get the fire out for the most. they rescued the family pet inside. getting the gas turned off that caused all of this that was a bigger problem. it took 90 minutes to turn off the gas. pg&e had to dig three times before they got the gas shut off. you are looking at one of the holes this morning that is ten feet from the explosion. that is causing concern when you consider all the issues that came out of san bruno. a report out this week the ntsb expedite the installation of shut off valves and remote control valves. the other question this morning is how all this happened. the blast happened just before 12:30 wedne

claudine wong joins us live from uc berkeley with all of the developments this morning and where the two men are expected to be headed. good morning, claudine. >> reporter: good morning, tori. certainly we've been watching everything coming out of iran. we've been waiting for this confirmation that they've actually left the grounds of the prison because we've known since early this morning that there were a couple of cars with swiss diplomats there. they pulled up to the gates. they had not left yet. but they have now left. this all started overnight as word came from the attorney for these two men that all of the necessary signatures were in hand, then diplomatic vehicles were arriving at about 3:30 our time to the prison and then about 4:45 this morning. there was a -- about 4:45 this morning, there was word that the two men were freed after spending two years in that prison. details are still coming in about about how this happened. >> i'm sure there are so many things that we don't know and we will never know about the story and what happened behind the scenes and all of the negot

claudine wong is joining us live. in walnut creek where law enforcement officials are trying to catch these gunmen. claw did dean -- claudine? >> we do have new details this morning. we have new details about what exactly went down at this valero gas station in walnut creek. we should tell you there's surveillance video of the crime. police have not released it yet. but we just talked to someone who saw it. we want to show you some video that we just shot inside the store. there's very obvious cameras inside. those cameras recorded six people walking in about 3:30 yesterday morning, all wearing masks and costumes, at least one gorilla costume and one skeleton costume. now the criminals apparently walked in and went to the clerk who immediately put his hands up. that clerk was taken to the back. he didn't have keys to the safe. so the crooks didn't get anything from that. basically, what he told -- what he told the customer a couple of hours later, they went to the back, they didn't get anything. they took off. we know

as ktvu's claudine wong reports, family are hoping this could finally be the end of an ordeal that began two years ago. >> reporter: it was summer of 2009, when two american hikers were detained in iran. >> i have to assume he was in an area he didn't realize was iranian. >> reporter: the families of shane bauer, josh fattal and sarah shourd then began endless vigils. despite pleas from u.s. officials and the international community, iran held their accusations of espionage. >> out of his shirt he unraveled string and thread and made a little ring for her. >> reporter: last september, iran released sarah shourd due to health conditions. but months would pass with little communication. sarah shourd never returned for the trial but it went forward and last month many were shocked as the two men were sentenced to eight years in prison. just last week, iran's president broke the news that release could be imminent. today one judge's signature appears to be all that stands on the way as the families wait and hope that the end of this long road is here. claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news. >>>

ktvu's claudine wong joins us live to tell us about training exercises for some newly hired firefighters and city officials say today is key to getting a closed fire station back open. claudine. >> reporter: this is where they'll be burning today, training exercise that will start about 8:00 this morning and will go on for the next two days. neighbors say there's been a lot of activity out here recently, and there's a good reason. they're training five new firefighters, their graduation set for tomorrow, and today will be the end of a 12-week program that brings the station one step closer to being reopened. there are several closed fire stations in the city of vallejo. want to show you video of station 25. it closed on minnie drive last year. the city has just finished bankruptcy but now people are getting creative and they used grant money to hire nine new firefighters. they've only hired five so far, but they will be training here today and that means the station can reopen soon. >> station 25 is supposed to open as soon as we can hire the nine new firefighters that we're getting from
