ktvu claudine wong joins us live with rescue video you will only see on 2 and what is happening now. claudine. >> this area remains shut down, sal. this is island drive just near the mccartney intersection. it will be shut down for hours this morning. you can see the one car that was involved in this still sitting off the side of the roadway where it hit a tree early this morning. right now we are waiting for the accident investigation team to arrive. we are told they should be here shortly after 5:00. so really any minute now. i want to show you video after this accident. there was an extensive effort to get the driver of this car out. we are told by the alameda police department there were six people inside that white car. all under the age of 18. the driver was trapped and it took a lot to get that driver out and to the hospital. all six people are at the hospital. all we know right now this happened shortly after 1:30. somebody heard the crash but as far as they know, no one actually saw the crash. they got out here they got all six people to the hospital. there were officers at t

claudine wong tells us abouted deadly gunfire and the growing problem across the entire city, claudine> reporter: when it comes to gunfire even the police chief says the spike is more than he expected and the solution will not be quick. if you take a look behind me, you can see one candle which marks the spot where a 15-year- old was hurt. it was about 8:00 p.m. when police was called. the boy was pronounced dead a half hour later at the hospital and the search is on for the gunman. it happened just as they were talking about the recent spike in violent crime to the city council and they are trying to move more officers on the street to address the problem but he said change will take time >> they are removing guns off the streets of oakland. >> reporter: he said they are focusing on areas behind the crime and he said that will be more affective however whatever they agree upon, it seems more officers are needed and there is just no money to hire more. coming up in the next report, what he said he will do to try to shift resources to address the problem. claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 m

. >>> i'm claudine wong. it is thursday july 26th tori campbell has today off and we have breaking news, a car crashed into a home occupied by a family with young children. ktvu is outside on coolley avenue where the the car was towed away. >> reporter: this was a hit and run accident and it was definitely scary for the families who live here. let me show you where this all happened. the car traveled about 50 miles per hour, nicked this house and then plowed into the home next to it. here you can see this big gaping hole. now, a family was inside there sleeping. there was a mom and her two kids that were sleeping. now, from chopper 2, you can see what the scene looks like. this all took place at 5:15 this morning with a black cadillac just plowed into home on coolly avenue in east palo alto. the mother who was sleeping says she has a 2-month-old baby girl and a 3-year-old boy. both were uninjured but it was very scary for them. here's what she had to say. >> we woke up to the big headlights right in our faces
