cleary the market continues to find some value here. disney's rally helped lift the consumer discretionary sector today, up more than 1%. industrials was the second best sector. but financials again led the market, up almost 3%. j.p. morgan was among the big banking stocks moving up, gaining almost 3%. a nice rally. volume was a little heavier. the stock is up 20% from its most recent low hit last week. third quarter results come tomorrow before the opening bell. could set the tone early tomorrow. citigroup reports earnings next monday. shares jumped almost 5% today to their highest price since labor day. volume was also heavier in citi today. life insurance stocks provided a boost. lincoln financial was up 6%. both genworth and aflac gained more than 4%. yesterday, a regulatory agency gave its preliminary okay for rules on how to decide what non- bank financial institutions are considered too big to fail. the analyst at k.b.w. thinks these insurers won't be subject to new rules. beverage and snack food giant pepsi turned in better-than

this afternoon, a gradual cleary and cooler. inland highs in the low 70's. this evening it will be clear as we expect strong winds rolling into the bay area. a red flag warning in effect for wednesday. the satellite view, a lot more widespread cloud cover across the north bay and along the coastline, even popping up in the east bay. the clouds are a little more organized. it will take into the afternoon for things to clear up. temperatures right now are on the cool side. call it is actually right now and it will equal this afternoon. by 3:00 p.m. we will see 70's. it will be low 70's. we are not looking for too much in the way of warning. here is your 7 day around the bay. we will have a lot of wind coming in from the north. it will be a dry wind. we have a low humidity already. but those two things together and we have fire danger conditions. a red flag warning for all of wednesday. it goes into effect tonight and does not expire until 6:00 a.m.. thursday and friday, we are looking pretty good. first, i want to thank linda cleary her help in setting up this event, and i want to commend the michigan political history society for your commitment to preserving this part of the history of our state. in the course of writing my book, i was able to make use of several of the videotaped oral histories in your james blanchard collection including, of course, the interview that bill did wellly peterson back in 1995. these are, indeed, a gift not only to historians, but to future generationses of begannered. it's gratifying for me to be speaking here tonight, but it's also a little kit bawnting. it's daunting because i'm talking about a woman who was, by all accounts i reviewed, a very good public speaker. joyce brickly, her close friend and political protege, described elly peterson's speeches this way: she dealt in reality, but had a way of making an audience laugh along the way. but in the end she really came back on point and slammed an audience. she wasn't the delicate type. i think this made her likeness followed by powerful instructions all the more powerful. everyone who knew pete
