>>commissioner cleaveland: i'm delighted, too. this is one of the things that i'd hoped when i first came on the commission that we'd have a closer working relationship within public works and we'd have a dedicated group of people within public works that would address fire department issues immediately and that we were given priority, if you will, as one of the public safety departments within the city. so i'm really pleased to hear that. on the drug and alcohol testing you do, all these negatives, how do you do them? >> 80 of them were random, and they're selected by an outside vendor, the names are, and given to our i.s.b.'s, investigative services bureau, captain michael smith. he goes out during the day and tests those people. the other six tests were by accident testing. >>commissioner cleaveland: so they're not notified in advance. >> no. the only time you're going to know that you're testing in advance is if you're going in for in advance, you know you're going to have that test done, but know, we don't notify our members.

thank you. >> president cleaveland: thank you commissioner covington.ere any other comments from the commissioners? seeing none. next item. >> item seven. resolution 2018-02 discussion on possible action regarding proposed resolution, recommending the san francisco fire department expand the duty and rename the stress unit to pier support services. >> president cleaveland: any public comment on this resolution? >> greetings commissioners. i began my career at 18 years old seen the worst thing in america working as paramedic in richmond, california. at the age of 23, my hip was crushed using jaws of life which we saw earlier today. at that time, i made a rehab back in the fire service until things caught up. post-traumatic stress was not something firefighters what in 2010. it was just a veteran issue at that time. finding help was finding needle in the haystack. sense then i done lot of advocacy work. i spoke in 2016 at the first conference for california professional firefighters. i urge this commissioner to take this seriously. stress is the number on

i do like the idea and i know you brought it up, president cleaveland, it's important that not everyone, i will use myself as an example, i have regular contact with members of the stress unit. i have nothing but total respect for the work they do. personally, if i'm, and this is just me, and everyone deals with their stress in different ways. personally, if i'm having struggles, whether work-related, home-related, whatever-related, me, the person i am, i choose not to talk to someone within the department, because i'm a very private person and i totally trust confidentiality and so forth, but for me, having sort of a third party and having that anonymity, maybe going to a mental health network, where no one really knows who i am, maybe they do, but they aren't as closely tied in, to have layers built in, because everyone processes things differently, or is more willing to share. that peer support is amazing helpful for some and the only person will you go to. for others, maybe it's too close. to have realization that people process their stress in different ways, but the bottom line is
