i've been involved with the magic johnson foundation for 20 years and a few months, and right before i signed up to do "apprentice," my cousin, sharon in cleveland war with this disease. and when my cousin died, it was kind of a wake-up call for me to get back to work in that area, too. so i called nbc the next day and said, "i'm on 'apprentice.' i got to do it." >> jimmy: have you been offered other reality shows? >> yeah. but you know what? this is the only one that i like as a fan, and this is the only one that i used to say, "i would do that if it was in l.a." do you have kids? >> jimmy: no, not yet, no. >> okay, i have a son, and every year i thought he was too young to leave and go to new york for two months. >> jimmy: right. >> i'm a single dad, and this year he's 12 and he said, "you should do it, dad." i was telling him that one day i want to do "apprentice," and he said "you should do it." and i was going to this thing with my cousin and my kid said, "and take your birth certificate," which makes me know he's my kid -- 'cause he actually does birther jokes. >> jimmy: that's what he knows about donald trump? bring your birth certificate
