kron 4's charles clifford is live tonight at the bay bridge toll plaza with details. charles . . . well, the highway patrol says that last year 27 people died in traffic collisions over the thanksgiving holiday weekend. this year, the chp has already reportered numerous d-u-i arrests and the added patrols will continue throughout the coming weekend. from wednesday afternoon until sunday evening, every c-h=p officer availale will be on patrol . they are looking for drunk drivers, distracted drivers. officers will also be educating drivers on traffic safety laws, in particular they want people to make sure they are wearing seat belts. now, dui checkpoints are also often set up over the thanksgiving weekend. c-h-p said that because so many of their officers are on duty right now, they don't have any checkpoints planned for tonight. they are instead relying on local law enforcement to conduct those checkpoints.. we called around and several cities. . including san rafael and petaluma .. are planning checkpoints for this coming weekend. especially friday evening and saturd

(grant) this afternoon, kron 4's charles clifford was in santa rosa where he spoke with a group that donations to first responders, many of whom lost their homes to fires. natsin the hours and days after fire tore through large swaths of santa rosa and sonoma county, a very serious problem became apparent. more than 100 first responders had lost their homes to the flames and many more were working long hours with little or no relief. clancy faria is a retired sonoma county sheriff's deputy.sotsome folks didn't get a day off for ten days.in order to help these first responders out, , the sonoma county deputy sheriff's association, the santa rosa police officers association and santa rosa firefighters union teamed up to start gathering supplies and donations.sotwhat we wanted to do was provide support for the people who were still in the field who had no place to go home to even when they were off duty.it was an immediate success. the community started donating every item imaginable.sotand what you see here is just a small portion of the donations that have come in. organizers

in san mateo county, charles clifford kron 4 news.teve) months after two high profile incidents involing air canada planes... the n-t-s-b is looking into two more incidents at s-f-o where planes ácouldá have wound up on the same runway. according to a safety board report...a skywest plane in december 2016 crossed a line that it was supposed to stay behind while another plane was taking off. the report also says that a compass airlines plane in february was forced to abort a landing because a virgin america jet was lined up and waiting to take off on the same runway. air traffic controllers received a warning about the potential conflict from an automated system and were able to redirect the compass plane in time. all this comes after two air canada incidents..these are photos from back in july - a plane almost landed on a crowded taxiway instead of a runway... the tower told the incoming jet to go around... and at the last second... the air canada pilot pulled up and flew over the other planes... just in time. in other incident -- an

kron 4's charles clifford was in the east bay today and has an update on the repair work.gan territory road connects clayton to livermore and as you can see behind me here. it's still closed.morgan territory road was badly damaged by storms last winter. a landslide took out part of the road, damaged a water line and the asphalt for buckled and cracked for about a quarter of mile. people had to walk through here on foot for weeks in order to get home. since then a temporary bypass road has been set up for residents and repair work on morgan territory road beganthis past july. they are making good progress and actually hoping to pave the rebuild roadway this week as well as install guard rails. pge is also doing some final electrical work along this route, including putting in new power poles.finally,the county hasn't se t a date for when the road will reopen but they have scheduled a ribbon cutting ceremony for december 2nd so they are confident that the work is almost complete.in contra costa county, charles clifford kron 4 news. kron4's charles clifford and quadcopter four joined the u-s-g-s to see firsthand the work underway.deep in the heart napa wine country, the us geological survey has been digging trenches. 4 feet wide, 16-20 feet deep and a hundred feet or more long. this is an aerial view of one of the trenches taken from quadcopter4. ladderdown in the trench a small team of geologists has been searching for evidence of an earthquake fault line. specifically, the napa fault.sotbelle philibosian says which is a relatively minor fault part of the san andreas fault system. it was known prior to the earthquake but was not really studied at all.usgs geologist belle philibosian is leading this effort. the earthquake she's referring to was the south napa quake, which struck on the southern end of napa fault on august 24th 2014.that 6.0 quake caused hundreds of millions of dollars in damage across napa county. one person died and hundreds were injured. the quake was also a wakeup call for the usgs.sot belle philibosian says we've learned that we really shouldn't be ignoring these minor faults. they ma

kron 4's charles clifford has the details.rans has just released a draft environmental report on a plan to reconfigure the lanes of highway 101 in san mateo county and hopefully bring some relief to commuters.it's no secret that 101 traffic along the pennisual has gotten worse in recent years. just ask anyone.sotit takes me like 45 minutes to get 101 san mateo to redwood city.sot bumper to bumper.sotit's really frustrating. i hate sitting in traffic.hoping to relieve the congestion, caltrans has expedited an effort to reconfigure the lanes of north and southbound 101 between the 380 interchange near sfo and matadero creek in palo alto. the plan is to add a travel lane on the far right by connecting existing access lanes and turning them into a dedicated travel lane. caltrans would also turn the far left lane into an express toll lane. between 5 am and 8 pm. drivers would have to pay variable rates to use toll lane. caltrans has said they want to add the toll lane to encourage people to carpool or ride on busses. a new toll lan
