. >> in pacifica, despite rain the demolition began on an apartment complex because the cliff has beencrumbling away underneath it sergio quintana has more. >> reporter: well, the rains came steadily but the good news is the wind gusts are absent today, which is good news for the crews tearing the building apart. none of the debris will get blown away, and pose a safety risk. the operators will tear down the building's walls and then load the debris onto the back of semi trucks. the building has been off limits for quite a while because the cliff behind it has been slowly getting eaten away by the ocean. the owner declared bankruptcy and could not afford to do the job himself. this has been a demolition job many people were expecting for months. >> my friend lived here for about not even a week, about six days. and then it got tagged. like restricted use, which was actually no use at all. we had to like get out. >> it's going great. i mean, you know, we were able to take most of the building like 80% of the building down right now. and we're starting to haul it away. >> but a series of

crews are expected to tearing down an apartment complex teetering on the edge of a crumbling cliff. >> one we have been following for years now. bob, this work has been delayed several times because of the wet weather we have been getting and some delays from the owner himself. >> because of our property dispute between the property owner and the city, laura and sam. you'll recall that 320 what remains of it was evacuated back in 2010 and the demolition finally started this weekend. of course, to keep this 20-unit apartment complex from tumbling into the pacific ocean. that demolition began on saturday and 75% of the complex has been moved and held off to a landfill. the work could be done by this wednesday, possibly today. going to depend on the weather. now, as i mentioned, the city declared its 20-unit apartment complex unsafe and forced its residents to move back out in 2010 because the ocean eroded so much of the cliff that it was standing on. parts of the complex were teetering on the edge. this structure was supposed to come down a long time ago and didn't because of a dispute

el nino fueled storms have eaten away at the cliff side. abc 7 reporter picks up our team coverage live there. sergio? >> reporter: eric, you can see that the parking signs have already gone up in this neighborhood, warning people that the construction vehicles are going to be coming in here this week. that's because just this afternoon the city of pacifica has announced its plans to demolish it. according to the city manager the ongoing storms and faster roading cliffs behind this property pose too much of a safety risk. so beginning monday fences will go up around this two-story building. tuesday city sponsor crews will come in and tear it down. these buildings have been at risk of erosion for years. the building next door 330 was demolished by the property owner last month but according to the city of pacifica he has declared bankruptcy and cannot move any faster to demolish 320. so the city of pacifica has taken it upon themselves to do it. all afternoon we've been seeing people come by to look at these precarious properties. >> right n

he got stuck 30- feet up the cliff when he could not find a route to the top. and the hikers found the man the next morning. crews were then able to hoist him into a helicopter. fortunately. he did not suffer any injuries. crews are taking the final steps. before tearing down an entire apartment complex in pacifica. today. workers removed items from the apartment building on 3-20 esplanade. which contain asbestos. the complex was red- tagged recently. after it was deemed unsafe by the city. the building is situated dangerously along a bluff. the fear is that it could fall into the ocean at any time. crews will be back out at 8- tomorrow morning. demolition has been set for thursday. deliberation by a federal jury. is set to begin tomorrow afternoon. against four san francisco police officers... in a wrongful death lawsuit. the parents of alex nieto filed the lawsuit... after 28-year- old nieto was fatally shot by the officers two years ago in san francisco. it happened the night of march 21st, 2014. in bernal heights park. officers fired as many as 59- bullets
