criminal profiler clint van zandt, an msnbc analyst as well, joins me now to talk about this. clint, obviously, this is something they want to take very seriously, given the fact that virginia tech the site of that deadly shooting from 2007. this is nothing that they want to play around with. >> no, it's not. i was on the campus on the day of that shooting, and then i was there the following week covering the story for msnbc, and i mean, there was no more tragic event that one could cover than something like that, obviously, other than 9/11. and i think what pete is suggesting, too, is what's going on right now. this is the proverbial abundance of caution. realize that, you know, what one has to say is just the time you think a shooter would actually object a college campus, the answer is that there is probably not, there's not that many people on campus. then again, there are a lot of athletics going on, people carrying anywhere from maybe baseball bats to hockey sticks, inside of sweatshirts and things like that. what interests me as an investigator is that we have three witn

we have to bring in clint van zandt, a former fbi profile others.tion that we've gathered so far, what do you make of this initially? >> when we see they threats against school, because we've found bomb-making materials, many of these threats are guess the very start first week or two of school, where the incidents are planned, so i think it's good that the authorities were able to illustrate fill this one, unfortunately across the country there may be young men and women who think about something like this. i think what's significant is what you just shared with us, the priority juvenile charge of carries a concealed weapon, changing the serial numbers, and it is drug possession will be significant. as you know, they found drug paraphernalia in his room that he had also, so this combination of his age, the drugs and whatever he head against his school in his plan to once again so many young men or women are not necessarily original thinkers. in his mind, when he starts talking about mass casualties, he's again thinks of some type of incident where

. >> joining me live now, former fbi profiler clint van zandt. april 13th was a long time ago.rt goes out to this family. >> it really does, alex. >> with regard to investigators, they say they have no reason to believe this guy is connected to the bobo case. so why do they want to interview him about it? >> one of the things you always have to do notwithstanding eliminate family members and those living nearby, find all the registered sex offenders in the area who have a history of committing any similar type of crime, and rule them in or rule them out based upon where were they at the time. in this case, holly bobo's disappearance. this guy, you indicated, alex, lived nearby. he disappeared from the area. the local authorities got a warrant for his arrest. marshals tracked him down and now want to know, where were you when she disappeared? they may not have anything to link him to the crime, but by background you want to know where he was the morning she disappeared? >> is it standard procedure to interview all sex offending suspects in case like this that live in the area is

let's bring in clint van zandt. police describe these kids as being on a mission.do they mean by that? do you think this is an accurate description of what they are doing here? >> i think we have to be careful. the boyfriend of lee grace, who some are describing as a stripper with a machine gun because of her last employment, she's 29 years old. she's with her brokers age 2s 1 and 26. i don't think it serves any purpose for her now exoff and on say or boyfriend to suggest they'll spend the rest of their lives in a cage. it's likely they're watching us. what they need to know is there's no reason for them not to come in. they haven't shot anybody, they haven't hurt anybody. their life is not ended. they're all in their 20s. they all have a lot to live for. the last thing they want to do is confront a team and try to go in a blaze of glory. >> why is it do we think they're in colorado springs? they're driving cars with stolen plates, i believe the number is lcs 909. they're stealing plates off cars here. how much of a deterrent will it be? >> this is what's going to

. >> joining me now former fbi profiler, and msnbc contributor clint van zandt. is full of valleys and far west, they say the local terrain is inpredictable. how tough does it make fbi? >> it will be a challenge. there would be fbi agencies, forest rangers, state conservation officers, people who know the territory out there. with these three, i think they have a fantasized vision they'll remain on the run, the so-called gang of three that they are, but i think the area, law enforcement will be able to close in on them. all it's going to take is one tip from a camper, a hunter, somebody else that sees them, a vehicle, something like that. they may think they can go out in the woods and hide, but it will be short-lived. the only challenge is when the authorities go to arrest them, will they do the smart thing, which is surrender? or do the sum thing, which is try to shoot like they did at a deputy who chased them last week. >> you mentioned about this band of three. the fbi has been looking at their texts, different comments by family members. they do apparently t
