hillary clinton will do small events. she won't see large campaign rallies. that's very important for this reason and this reena lone. hillary clinton has come under a lot of criticism for the entitlement factor. a lot of people think perhaps hillary clinton shouldn't run, that they should allow some other democrat to step forward and lead the party. in fact, her husband of course ran the country for eight years, however, hillary clinton is trying to show that she is going to fight for every vote. in fact, yesterday, victor, the campaign manager met with everybody who are going to become staffers. he put out this guiding principles memo and this is important because they wanted to put in place that the clinton campaign will fight for every vote. let me read a little from that memo. we are humbled. we are never afraid to lose. we always are out to compete and fight for every vote we can. in that memo they noted they would do their best to work together as a team. there would be no in fighting. in fighting is something that marked hillary clinton's first run for

campaigns. mark: independent of this whole situation, one of the two things that have been strongest about clintonce she became an official candidate, and the weakest? guy: first of all, over the course of the two or three days of the campaign, they cover three things. first, they set a tone for the campaign being about everyday americans and telling the stories of real people who are planning their lives, struggling to make ends meet, and identifying her with solving those problems. second, in terms of the culture of the campaign, they have clearly communicated to staff to supporters, to donors, to anybody interested in the campaign that this is a different type of campaign that she has run before. the biggest challenge with the clinton operation is that everybody expects it to be fully funded, fully run, fully staffed from day one. i think they have compensated for that with this ramp up. john: thank you for coming in. i'm sad you are not with the campaign. i assume i will see you in brooklyn. we will be right back. ♪ john: part two of our john boehner interview tomorrow. until then, sayonara. ♪

the clinton campaign is off to a rough start for the second full week. cash and questions about the former secretary of state possibly showing favoritism to companies or countries that donated to her family foundation. then when clinton campaign chief john last night went out to defend her, he had to also answer questions about exactly what she had accomplished during her tenure as secretary of state. listen to some of that.

campaign, maybe. there is about a 98% chance hillary clinton is going to be one of the two candidates in the general election in this 2 $1/2 billion campaign. i'm not sure anyone expected an anti-unlimited money in politics plank would be one of the first things she would put in her platform, but she has. that's a political surprise and a really interesting new question about this giant terrible structural problem we have now in our democracy, which is the legalization of unlimited anonymous money and how it has crowded out and devalued the politicization of everyone else in the process who can't compete at that kind of a financial level. it's such a huge problem in our politics. it's almost like the weather, it's the ambient atmosphere in which all politics happens, and in polite and mainstream politics, it's almost seen as not worth talking about, because the problem is so big. and because it seems to be unfixable. in recent polling, 96% of americans say they believe it's important to reduce the importance of money in politics. 96% think we ought to do that. but the proportion of americans who think that i

accepted donations from people tied to a russian ukraine yan mining company and here's the clinton campaign's response. no one has produced a shred of evidence that hillary clinton ever took action as secretary of state to support the interests of donors to the clinton foundation. do you see any there, there? >> no i don't. i think it's part of the witchhunt that the clintons always attract.

clinton. this is essentially the fourth time that she's going to be part of a presidential campaign. the first two times were with her husband bill clinton who was running and reelected and she ran in 2008 and lost to bay. if there is a mood for change, hillary clinton might find it difficult to be the change candidate, so she is going to play a very difficult role of aligning herself with president barack obama but finding a different way to take the country. the challenge of people just know her so well that opinions are hillary clinton are so strong in this country already there's going to be a very narrow margin of voters that she can go out and try those undecided voters and there's a very small margin because hillary clinton has that spent more than 30 years in the public eye here in the u.s., so many people on both sides either like or don't like her but opinions are strongly formed about her already. >> it's going to be a fascinating campaign. live in new york for us. >> this will be clinton's second bid for the presidency. we look at her journey so far and what lice ahead. >>

hillary clinton's presidential campaign launching its battle plan ahead of the release of an exclusive book alleging pay to play by the former secretary of state. welcome to happening now. i am jenna lee. >> mrs. clinton's threat to make remarks at georgetown university. no word whether she will address the growing controversy over the book alleging foreign donors who gave millions to the clinton foundation received favorable treatment from the government. when mrs. clinton was the nation's top diplomat. in a new memo the clinton campaign official blasts the book as a political hit job and it tends to discredit the author. jack nicklaus it is, senior politics editor of the daily breeze, daniel hauser of the weekly standard and author of clinton inc.. jackie, the book is not even out yet. the clinton campaign is dismissing it as the same old attack that the right wing has been making begins the clintons forever. how worried are they? how worried should they be about what it contains? >> they are going to push back very hard on this book just like they did other clinton books before that

every day americans need a champion and i want to be that champion. >> clinton's campaign strategy so far is reminiscent of the listening tour in her bid for senate in 2000. i spoke to a former aide to clinic to but "b" how she's approaching the campaign. >> you'll see a different clinton campaign. some of the criticism of the 2008 campaign was that the campaign was too bill ledge rent to the media in this campaign you'll see a lot more intimacy, a lot more individual interaction with voters even though presidential campaigns are sort of in the air in terms of media-driven, but you'll see more intimacy a better relationship with the media and i think she'll start to highlight a lot of things she may have shied away from in 2008. a lot of issues particularly i think the issue of gender. i think now with a little bit more of an opening you can--you can count on hillary clinton to talk about gender issues because it's not just about being the first woman to become president of the united states. this is also about reforming reshaping, recasting what it means to be a democrat in 2016. so

but the bottom line is all of this laid out, the clinton campaign pushes back a tangled web of conspiracy theories and raises questions about ethics, politics and the interaction of a transactional political system. and questions that hilary clinton will likely have to answer at some point whether from a group of reporters on the trail in nevada or a one-on-one interview. we have interviewed her before and she is welcome on special report any time. >> the head of the clinton organization is going to refile tax forms suggesting it is more about housekeeping not separateing certain donations from grants. how big of a deal is this? >> they are staying they will refile on the technicality of the big organization. it involves millions of dollars if you want to characterize it that way. some of these donations are tied to a canadian firm uranium company that benefited from interaction with the clintons in one way or another. the campaign is saying the owner of the company sold the shares prior to imnvolvement of russians taking over. i think you will see more questions on specifics and not just

the two issues here one is clinton campaign and clinton global initiative or her campaign but the other is that russia now owns one fifth of our uranium capacity here in the united states as a result of this deal. you tried to warn everybody. >> we did. we tried to throw the penalty flag early on. we did that in 2010. people in wyoming were concerned that the administration was going to approve this sale. we talked to the administration ahead of time. we wrote to the president right after they approved the sale of american uranium product to a country controlled by putin and russia. we were very concerned from the standpoint of energy security for our country and national security since most of the uranium that he would use in the united states we have to import that we use for nuclear power and now you see vladimir putin owning 20% of american uranium, controlling that and we know that russia sends uranium to people who are not our friends to our bitter enemies including iran. >> so i mean, what was the response? when you wrote this letter back in december of 2010, it couldn't be plain

they're talking a lot about hillary clinton as they launch their campaign. e fact hillary clinton is busy talking to and about everyday americans. >> let's talk about this contrast because i want to read a part of what ruth marcus at the "washington post" had to say and gave a negative report on the video. >> understood announcement video isn't moment for detailed policy platform, but it is or should be a venue for at least nodding to specific goals. >> so let's go shakespeare here. if past is prologue did she fail in that area or is this a completely fresh approach to the job she wants to obtain in 2016? >> i think ruth's opinion was in minority about the launch. the fact of the matter that video got now over 4.5 million hits on facebook and youtube. it clearly communicated policies hillary clinton will roll out over 500 days but rather marked for her the start of the campaign. the whole campaign is not litigated in 36 hours. what hillary wanted to communicate was this is a different type of campaign. a campaign grounded in the future and economic fairness.

campaign. for hillary clinton, it's something she's effective at. conversations with people directly straight. she's talking about the issues they want to talk about. that's actually the definition of a good early presidential campaign. >> congressman weber, you obviously are close with jeb bush. every republican is taking shots at hillary clinton. it's a smart thing to do. it serves conservatism. from jeb bush's perspective, i have to think the campaign is happy to officially see hillary clinton. it is the same argument of the same name. >> he's a face that's been in front of everybody for 25 a years. jeb bush is a new face as if a new name. bush name is well known, but governor bush has not spent his career in washington. that's a contrast we can make. you know the main problem hillary clinton has with republicans is all the benefits that she gets out of having cleared the field on the democratic side also means it's hard for republicans not to start shooting at her from day one. she is the opponent. >> anita a gun one thing robert gibbs said is sh

mark: another bad day in the media for the clinton campaign. the clinton foundation has a technology mistakes in the handling of some of the foreign donations. bill clinton reportedly got paid $200,000 by goldman sachs for a speech he gave in 2011 months before the gotham city firm started lobbying the clinton state department. that is according to the "international business times." here is a sampling of what the clintons got. >> what still boggles the mind is why doesn't hillary deal with this herself? >> the sloppiness in the greed that follows on this. >> it is about the appearance of conflict of interest and everyone seems to understand this is a huge problem. >> this is not a hard case that the republicans need to make that they are in this for themselves. >> it feeds the aura of what people have about the clintons. mark: that is a lot of negativity from normal allies. how will hillary turn the page? by asking iowans to literally turn the page with a dramatic op-ed. the column was so anodyne, it would not make news on the slowest newsday o

he has a long history handling clinton legal troubles advising then president clinton on campaign finance and impeachment. lanny, welcome back to "fox news sunday." >> thank you, chris. >> let's start with one of the big points that peter makes in his book. how do you explain bill clinton's speaking fees went up after his wife became secretary of state and the fact that the 13 speeches he's made since he left the white house for which he was paid $500,000 or more, 11 of those 13 were while she was secretary of state. how do you explain that? >> well i can't explain why people decided to pay george bush and others lots of money. that's their decision. knowing bill clinton all of these years, he's worth listening to and because of his activities all over the globe and certainly in the foundation, he's probably worth that amount of money. >> i gels the question is, you would think the market would be that he would be most valuable and most interesting right after he left the white house. in fact, the speaking fee goes up dramatically and 11 of the 13 biggest speeches were when she was secret

the people but not necessarily something they might prosecute for. >> the whole point of the clinton campaignow going forward is rally democrats to here what she used to call the right wing conspiracy. anybody who raises an attack. can you imagine how the process will be with hillary clinton finally has to sit down to do an interview. this is like the yalta summit where she has to sit down and talk to a reporter and figure out how to do this. they have so much baggage they have to offload and they have to do it in very careful. precise, clintonian terms of phrase so they can day on the attack, stay accusing republicans or anybody that raises questions. >> so he poedesta goes on the charlie rose show. saying these are smears and attacks. we've seen this before and will probably have to deal with this a lot. yet "the new york times" and washington post are partnering with peter switcherooitser. how does he dismiss them so ready? >> he put ace knock on "the new york times" for being involved in -- by the way this is not something that is unheard of. this is, you get advanced notice. you watch fr

of the "washington post" stories as well and in the aggregate this makes it difficult for the clinton campaignf to make the argument that she's a champion for the little guy. that's what she has wanted to frame herself in the new rollout, humbler, kinder, gentler hillary clinton and this idea that perhaps there is the perception that she is using this clinton foundation, which has done a lot of good and they'll argue that too, could be involved in this sort of a pay for play scheme. you've had mitt romney go so far to call it bribery. those kind of stories out there, really i think are going to make it hard for her to make this other argument which they want to make, that se's the champion of the little guy. they've got to figure this out. it's the second week into the campaign so they've got a long way to address this stuff. >> david chalian, about 15 seconds left. where is bill clinton? he's the explainer in chief. can't he explain this. >> they have him on ice at the moment. the one comment that we have had from bill clinton on this, hey, the foundation does a lot of good around the world,

should the clinton campaign be worried about it? >> well it's definitely going to keep cropping up reverend, no matter what they do about it it's sort oft outside their control. the support came out this morning. hillary clinton appeared several times today. reporters asked her several times. she did not address it personally. her campaign is saying that this was a routine letter from the house. it was sent to all cabinet officials. so they didn't really think much of it. they note that the response from the state department came several months after she left. so they say they did nothing wrong. and they say essentially there is nothing new here. but in recent days republicans have telegraphed that this e-mail issue is going to be at the center of their pushback on hillary clinton's campaign. it's going to keep coming up again and again and again. just yesterday at her event, the republican party of iowa, the state party was handing out bright orange sheets of paper poking her on this issue. they were wearing t-shirts that said nerd

clintons have pushed it up to the line. as you lay all of this out, is it enough to cause a real problem for the campaign? i think they're going to have to answer some serious questions pretty soon. >> let's take a listen to chelsea clinton who defended the family foundation against allegations that foreign governments received favors in return for donations. >> we have always partnered with governments and foundations to believe the work we do is important, that we will be even more transparent. to eliminate any questions while we're in in time we won't take new government funding, but that the work will continue as it is. >> do you want to weigh in on this real quick? >> i think the foundation is going to continue. they're not limiting foreign government's. they've listed the governments that they will take donations from and some of those include, you know others that have been involved before. i think it's interesting to see chelsea clinton at the top of the ticket there at the clinton foundation and trying to defend what's happening. there's certainly smoke here whether lawmakers move forward with the
