joining me on the cnbc news line is james cakmac.is in investors' minds. should investors with worried or will calmer heads prevail? >> that's a great question. i'll break it up into two parts. the short answer is on the economy, yes, there needs to be some degree of caution because, frankly, we're not exactly clear with the ism data coming out yesterday and how much the economy could slow in the second half. on the a.i. front, you know, some of that growth is slowing as bob pointed out. we're also in the huge transition phase. there is this uncertainty as far as how much of these a.i. investments will actually accrue into returns for these companies over time. i think there's a lot of uncertainty around that and a lot of questions on the earnings calls. i think that's the area that investors should not be concerned with. i think this a.i. transition where you don't know exactly how it's going to develop, but a lot of people are thinking about this in terms of lineal type of growth and investors need to think about it in terms of exp

my job is not just to entertain, but actually to teach you, so call me at 1-800- 743-cnbc. you want to know the single most useless thing you can do in this business? that's easy. the most useless thing you can do as an investor is to worry about what everyone else is worrying about. the flipside of this is also true. there is no point in getting excited about something everyone else is eagerly anticipating. why? because when the vast majority of investors agree that something is going to happen, that thing is already priced into the stock. priced in. while the real economy moves at its own pace. for example you have to borrow money to build out equipment and use that to manufacture goods and transport them to retail outlets and wait for the customer to come along and buy them. the stock market has no such limitations. stocks don't quite travel at the speed of thought, but they come close. so for mutual fund managers to decide that the economy is slowing or speeding up or flatlining, stocks start trading like that is already the case. usually it takes time to build that con

cnbc's julia boorstin here with the latest in the saga. now what, julia? >> the latest in the saga, "the wall street journal" reporting that skydance has sent a letter to paramount special committee demanding they stop negotiating with edgar bronfman. i reached out to sky dance, the said no comment, but according to a source familiar with the contents of the letter there are two criteria for the go shop period to be extended. one is that this new offer be a clearly superior bid, and two, that there was a procedural error in the special committee's notification of skydance about this new offer, and in this letter, the company saying it failed to explicitly extend the go shop period. so, it seems like this letter has been sent, according to my source, and we're waiting for comment from skydance. we will also reach out to edgar and his company for comment, as well. just the late nest the paramount saga. back over to you. >> okay, julia, thank you. keep us posted on what you hear. >>> now, we're going to move to chicago, big night there, vice president kamala

you are watching "worldwide exchange" here on cnbc. welcome back to "worldwide exchange."'m frank holland. we pick up with the stock futures. you can see they are in the red across the board. the s&p looking like it would open 130 points lower. the dow 670 points lowlower. the nasdaq down 470. believe it or not, it is off the lows from early this morning. we saw it down 1,000 points. we want to look at the percentage basis of the futures. looking at the s&p, down more than 2.5% in the pre-market. the dow down more than 1.5%. 1.7% right now. the nasdaq is the hardest hit down more than 4% in the pre-market. the nasdaq 100 futures over the past six hours well off the lows, but they were down more than 1,000 points. taking a look right here. you see the moves in the pre-market when it comes to the nasdaq. mega cap tech under pressure. we'll talk about that momentarily. this follows the july jobs report showing the slowest payroll growth in months and adding to a string of weaker than expected economic data. only adding fuel to the argument that the fed may have waited too lon
