cnbc morning business report, i'm silvana henao. i'm glad to hear we can optimize audio. there you go. well, new york city a controversial traffic plan is now in effect. yesterday, it became the first city in the country to have so-called congestion pricing. that means drivers during this morning's commute had to pay a $9 toll to drive on city streets into the heart of manhattan. that toll drops to 225 during off hours. city officials hopes it will reduce traffic gridlock while raising money for public transit. i think it's just a tax. it's not going to alleviate any congestion. places like chicago and los angeles, which also have pretty severe traffic congestion, are watching to see what happens here in new york. the program launched without major hiccups yesterday morning, and so far there has not been too many issues. during this first monday of the year. we'll see when they get there. bills. right now trending this morning, it was a glitzy start to this year's award season as the golden globes took over l.a. last night. it was cool because several bay area stars won big, including ali wong,
