cnn meteorologist rejoins me now from atlanta.ges of the flood waters are just staggering. do we know if this storm is going to continue that kind of pace? >> it is and possibly will strengthen again here before it makes another landfall. looking at the models looks like vietnam could be at the cross hairs of this storm system. going back to that image, seeing those videos we saw moments ago, some of the biggest dangers are what's hidden beneath the waters. water born issues and dangerous animals in those water. but notice what's happening here when it comes to this particular typhoon, rapidly intensified in the span of 12 hours just before it made landfall. so essentially created the worst case scenario for our friends across the philippines and some of the images speak to how severe of a story it was with landfall on sunday afternoon with wind speeds of 240 kilometers per hour being a super typhoon equivalent to category 4 hurricane. rainfall amounts 250 millimeters or 10 inches. what is left of this storm system as he re-emerge

we talked to the cnn weather team.hat they said was that at the moment we're seeing 10 to 15 miles an hour for the wind. but at sunset it can get to 25 and 35 miles an hour. that's when it gets concerning. that's when it could guess dangerous even for those firefighters because of the wind and how it can change very quickly. unfortunately, this fire has already destroyed more than 71,000 acres and there is still work to be done because it's only 21% contained. they do expect progress over the next couple of days because of that rain. after we get the wind, we are expecting the rain sunday into monday. that could be extremely beneficial for those firefighters. there are assessment teams also out there trying to figure out exactly how many structures have been destroyed because of this fire. we do not have an updated number, but we know crews are out there working around the clock, doing everything they can. some of these evacuation orders are being lifted, so authorities are asking people to pay attention to the orders,

i want to bring in cnn's chief political analyst, gloria borger, dave aaronberg, and cnn counterterrorism analyst, phil mudd. dave, let's begin with your reaction to our exclusive new cnn reporting that the former president has been involved in a secret court fight. do you think he will be successful in blocking his former aides from testifying? >> i don't, wolf. and this is really about eric herschmann, who was the break out star of the january 6th committee hearings. he had that salty language and direct advice to john eastman, to jeffrey clark, they needed to hire their own criminal defense lawyers. his testimony is really important, because it could go to criminal intent. because he could show that eastman and clark and perhaps even trump himself were directly told by a lawyer, hirschman, that what they were doing is a crime. so that's important for investigators. so you can see why trump would not want him to be unleashed in front of a grand jury. now, attorney/client privilege and executive privilege really doesn't apply here, because eric herschmann was a government lawyer and ther

you are live in the "cnn newsroom." well, what had been a sleepy atlantic hurricane season is now roaring to life and millions of americans are right in the path. this is tropical storm ian churning across the warm energizing waters of the caribbean. it's expected to strengthen to a hurricane before slamming into florida next week and if forecast models are accurate, it will be the first major hurricane to hit the state in four years. floridians are heeding the warnings and talking up on water, fuel and supplies and this afternoon florida's governor expanded a state of emergency to blanket the entire state. he says conditions are, quote, projected to constitute a major disaster. just minutes ago the national hurricane center issued its latest update. let's go straight to the cnn weather center where we are tracking it. what have we learned so far. >> reporter: the latest advisory, not much has changed other than key west is now just outside of the cone, still an uncertain center with this storm which plays a role in whe

lets discuss with cnn's chief political correspondent dana bash, cnn's senior legal analyst laura coates, and palm beach county, florida state attorney dave aaronberg. laura, the former attorney general under trump bill barr says the judge's order is, quote, wrong and that the u.s. justice department should appeal. what do you make of that? >> well, there's two points as to why he believes they're wrong. i think there is some merit in both of those. one is the idea of executive privilege. the idea here that a member of the executive branch, which of course under the org chart includes the department of justice, that they would be withheld information that's already rightfully in their possession as the executive branch of government. number two, it's also the idea here that normally a special master opinion, special master's appointed for an attorney-client privilege scenario, not an executive privilege. which is already shaky in and of itself. and if i can offer a third as to why it's bizarre, in her opinion she spoke about the idea of this 41g discussion, this rule that essentially say
