you are watching cnn newsroom, hello, welcome to our viewers, i'm natalie allen. our top story hopes of finding survivors in the south korean ferry disaster are growing demmer by the day, but that isn't stopping the massive rescue operation under way in the yellow sea. poor visible and choppy seas today have hampered efforts by divers to get inside the sunken ferry. the death toll right now stands at 29 with more than 270 people still missing. meantime the ship's captain has been charged with abandoning his ship, causing bodily injury and not taking rescue from other ships. about 12 kilometers from the disaster site, family members continue to watch the under water search from big screen tv at a school gymnasium. today one man desperate for news about loved ones, lunged at security officers, no one, though, was hurt. following rault all of the progress of the rescue and operations, they still are continuing pauline to give an all out search for anyone. >> reporter: they r. and they're not stopping. this is a 24 hour operation, and, natalie, we just got few figures

you're live in the cnn newsroom. >>> good morning, i'm carol costello. for joining me. after 38 days the search for flight 370 now moves deep under water. for the first time a 16-foot long, unmanned submarine has been launched to scan the ocean floor for those black boxes. but this new strategy will now drag out the search a lot longer. this bluefin 21 submarine takes six times as long to search as the towed pinger did. each mission will take 24 hours to complete. today the sub can only cover an area of about 15 square miles. the entire search area is the size of los angeles. that means the search with just the submarine could take up to two months. >> i would caution you against rising hopes, that the deployment of the autonomous underwater vehicle will result in the detection of the aircraft wreckage. it may not. however, this is the best lead we have, and it must be pursued vigorously. again, i emphasize that this will be a slow and painstaking process. >> also this morning, the head of the search team says an oil slick was found in the search area, b
