you are watching "cnn newsroom." i'm rosemary church. >> i'm john vause. our top story this half-hour. the early indications are an amtrak passenger train was moving too fast when it want off the track tuesday night. in philadelphia, killing seven people. >> what they don't know yet is whether it was human error or maybe a mechanical problem. cnn's jason carol reports from philadelphia. >> reporter: the mangled wreckage of amtrak train, 188, strewn on the tracks, event data recorder recovered from the train's first car revealed the tran was traveling at least twice as fast as it should have been. 106 miles per hour as it entered the corner where it derailed late tuesday. just moments before the derailment, the train was placed into engineer induced braking and this means that the engineer applied full emergency, full emergency brake application. the train was traveling at approximately 106 miles per hour. three seconds later when the data to the recorders terminated, the train speed was 102 miles per hour. >> the train scheduled to leave philadelphia's uni

this is "cnn newsroom." thank you for joining us, everyone. the fbi is investigating possible in the national terror links in the shooting at a prophet muhammad cartoon contest in texas. a policeman shot and killed two gunmen outside the event sunday night. after one of them wounded a security officer. the contest was held by an organization that critics say is anti-muslim. the gunman were wearing body armor and had assault rifles. one of the men apparently, pledged his allegiance to isis. and his family said they had no idea of his plans. ken law went to arizona where the shooters lived and as she reports, no one saw them as the a threat. through this busted door way the gunmen lived. he grew up in pakistan and still has family there. elton simpson, convicted of lying to federal agents in 2011, but no other history of violence. neighbors and their apartment complex saw nothing outwardly alarming from the two roam mates. ariel whitlock had been texting simpson who put his car up for sale. >> i'm getting goose bumps right now. i wanted to buy t

this is "cnn newsroom." >>> we start this hour in baltimore, maryland. the mandery curfew has just ended this hour. on saturday night, police arrested dozens of people for defying the curfew. the curfew was put in place last week in response to days of sometimes violent protests over freddie gray's death. gray died in april, as you'll remember, after suffering a spinal injury after a ride in a police transport van. six officers involved in his arrest and transport have been arrested. and as a result of that, we have seen largely peaceful demonstrations on saturday. the extension of the curfew, though, was unexpected. still, some marchers told cnn they had no intentions of getting off the streets when the curfew went into effect. cnn's sara sidner shows us what happened when people refused to leave. >> reporter: we're standing on the corner of west north and pennsylvania. there have been several arrests overnight here alone and in other parts of the city. the curfew came at 10:00. some people decided -- most

you're watching "cnn newsroom." the manhunt is over in washington, d.c. police have arrested the person wanted in connection with that quadruple murder, 34-year-old darren wint was taken into custody a few hours ago. he is charged with felony murder. last hour we heard new details about how police tracked the suspect down. >> i spoke to rod fernandez, he is with the capitol area regional task force, he said they were able to track the suspect, wint, to new york city and they just missed him last night but they continued to track him all wait to a howard johnson's hotel in college park maryland tonight and the task force rolled up to the hotel with about 20 vehicles and they spotted a car and a moving truck leaving the hotel parking lot. so they started following the two vehicles. and they were actually able to identify the suspect, wint, in the car as they were following them. so they followed him for about 10 minutes and got a police chopper from prince george's county maryland involved at one point and they followed the two vehicles into washington, d.c
