i'm pamela brown in washington, and you're in the cnn newsroom. and we begin this hour with uncertainty and fear inside the federal government. a lot of people wondering what is going on here. workers are bracing for widespread layoffs by the trump administration, many unsure how much longer they'll be employed. and it's all part of the president and elon musk's plan to shrink the government workforce. our breaking news this hour. the cia has just become the first major national security agency to offer buyouts to all of its staff, with a few exceptions. that comes after white house officials announced that those workers who don't accept an offer to resign could lose their jobs. usaid is being hit especially hard. a new directive states that all of the agency's staff around the world will be placed on administrative leave in just a couple of days. we are covering it all for you this hour. and i'm joined now by cnn's alayna treene and alex marquardt. alana, i want to kick it off with you. what are you learning about this buyout for cia employees? >

things we are really leaning on right now is training down in the local newsrooms when i'm fairly confident that new york times cnnon't have somebody covering the mayor you don't have somebody who can verify an image so we are in local newsrooms right now giving them technology we are helping them in real time and helping build infrastructure. >> i would say government is a huge delinquent. it does try to control whether it social media or ai but i would say to your point, we saw in bosnia the idea of saying okay enough already or not to compete on this effort, collaborate we saw in bosnia a different way, all of us in the field mostly tvs and we all collaborated and made this thing called stereotypical agency pool which involved not just the agencies all the networks were there. we all share the video of the stuff that we all went to why don't we all go to press conference we did our own enterprise story. we really cut down on a lot of danger by cooperating. >> i don't think you heard anybody being casual about the possibilities. we were too slow in identifying the possibilities. if that's all we do it's going to

cnn senior justice correspondent evan perez is in washington, in the newsroom in new york. cnn chief law enforcement and intelligence analyst john miller is here, who also was a former fbi assistant director. evan, i want to start with you. what are you hearing about? first of all, the questionnaire. and second of all, who's on the list? >> well, the questionnaire. >> was due yesterday afternoon at 3 p.m. all indications are that the agents complied with what was required of them, which was to provide information about what they did, what what actions they took, what cases they were working on. it was a very tight deadline that they were ordered to do from from an email over the weekend. and then today was a deadline for the the acting leadership of the fbi to turn over the names of thousands of employees, agents, analysts, supervisors who worked on cases related to january 6th, as well as a hamas related prosecution that also occurred in in in the last administration. now, all indications were this morning was that the fbi leaders were going to comply with that deadline of
