the interim report blames the lack of safety regulations and slow response from the coast guard as main factors in the disaster. it's been released as the trial resumes that the captain and crew members. video footage is presented in court from the day of the sinking. lucy williamson is outside the courtroom in the city and says there's been emotional scenes. >> reporter: inside this courtroom today there's been a lot of video footage shown by the prosecution. footage of captain and crew being rescued and footage from inside the ship, shots by one of the school children who died in this disaster. that footage shows him and his classmates gathered in the corridors wearing their life jackets, laughing and joking, not understanding the gravity of the situation. the prosecution was showing this is important footage because it showed how close the exit doors were to children on board. they're making the case that none of these deaths needed to happen had the captain and crew acted differently. the judge says he had to this would be distressing footage particularly for families of young victi

members of a south korean cargo ship are treated for food poisoning after being rescued by the coast guard were sickened as the boat was anchored three miles off the coast of cape canaveral, florida. the coast guard felt it best to remove the ill crew members because the weather was deteriorating due to tropical storm arthur. the number of victims made for a very complicated rescue. >> even with reconfiguring the aircraft, they don't have enough space to carry that many people so we launched two aircraft both of which was mostly empty cabins. >> two crew members unaffected by the illness remained on the ship. >> right now hundreds of people are forced out of their homes by a raging wildfire up in napa county. it's burned almost 3,000 acres and is only 30% contained at this hour. we are going to go back live to the firelines in napa county for an update from kpix 5's anne makovec this morning. >> reporter: there is a lot of smoke in the air right now. it is filling the canyon. you can see some of the small fires here on the hillside behind me. a lot of the rest of the hillside is simply alr

coast guard, itemizing coast guard controls deployed on different ports.on, new york, los angeles and others. this is also used for stat ton island ferry, coast guard patrols around that. you've heard about the system for assigning air marshals to flights. what was interesting is itz provided large scale research problems. these topics for our phd students. many of them are sitting there at the back of the room. it's led to many thesis awards. this has been a fantastic program. this was initially deployed. we've been looking at applications where there's more reaction of adversaries. also looking at patrols to our coast guard in the gulf of mexico against illegal fishermen where there's data from the field as well as work getting deployed in uganda protection security for wild life security. this is against poachers. what's interesting here is we're bringing together machine learning from data as well as game theory. there's a lot of very interesting interdisciplinary work we can do here. we're happy with the set of challenges that have been brought forth.

right now, we are awaiting a news conference from the coast guard in wilmington, north carolina.o there live once it happens for the latest on hurricane arthur which has now been downgraded to a category 1 storm. arthur made landfall last night near the southern end of north carolina's outer banks where it knocked down trees causing flash flooding and shut down power for up to 44,000 people. but this morning, as the storm moves on from the carolina coast, north carolina governor pat mccrory had some good news about the aftermath of this storm. >> this has been a very good day. there have been no casualties or serious injuries reported, and that was our number one goal. things look quite good throughout the coast of north carolina. there's been minimal damage, and right now we have people from throughout the world beginning again to enjoy north carolina beaches. >> the fourth of july may be less enjoyable, though, for those in the northeast who will feel arthur's effects as the storm makes its way up the east coast. it's expected to pass east of cape cod with dangerous rip current
