coast guard, an agency that seizes three times as much cocaine as all other u.s. ent combined. and we witness firsthand the new frontlines of the war on drugs. our journey begins on the coast of el salvador in 2017, where the coast guard cutter "stratton" is preparing to depart. this crew patrols the eastern pacific day in and day out, with the help of other agencies and even international partners. it's mission -- to find and intercept drug boats carrying uncut cocaine before they can reach land. these waters, officials say, now the prefered routes to smuggle dope. >> over the last year the coast guards took over 455,000 pounds of cocaine off the water. captain craig is in charge of this crew of about 140 people. >> do you know what the normal path of one of these fast boats loaded with cocaine would be? >> it emanates from south america, and it can go a number of routes right. when you when you have that much geography that you cover, these boats will take all sorts of evasive routes so they can invade law enforcement assets. >> so they're going way out to sea. >

in the coast guard. he's still active duty today. once we came back, he got orders to san diego, we were not married at the time. i followed him to san diego and as soon as i walked into my new station, i was immediately put on active duty again. walked into the door and she said hey, welcome aboard, congrats, here are your active duty orders. i was shocked. i just got off active and i want to go back to college. so another year in active duty and after two years, i decided probably the plan would be to stay on active duty. i endued what i was doing. from there i transferred to a couple of other units as active duty, i had my daughter. she's 12 now and i took advantage of a new program back then, newborn separation program program, i did a two-year temporary separation and went back to the reserves. i spent some time at home with my daughter while she was in her first two years growing up. then i came back to active duty and continued my career. from there, as xt o in michigan. down in virginia beach and

we are the deployable units of the coast guard. we deploy outside of the u.s., not typically inside, and then we have one active duty element that goes to the patrol forces southeast asia, so some active duty members there, unfortunately not able to join us today. but we are the deployable part. so, we need to be having everybody in our unit ready to go. we have very operational components. we have our boat operators, we have our-- we actually train to marine corps standard for our maritime enforcement, our land forces and then we basically have support elements. my last unit every single one of my support elements, people went to basic combat skills and they performed far above the expectations that anybody had for them. so, i think it's a good example. if you have to do it, you have to encourage it and then the y and 1 female, e-6,port curt active duty supporting your reserve unit, she was the number one cheerleader for pushing people to get in the class and do better than the guy carrying the heavy pack across the line. she was
